All classes after lunch were canceled for the day.
Praise John Lennon and the mock trial club for getting me out of class.
I didn't have the strength to sit through classes.
Emi's mock trial was going to begin in the gym within the hour. Jayden, Seth, and I were sitting together in the gym waiting for it to start. Mom and Nonna were somewhere around here. Emi and Jayden's parents were also around here somewhere.
Sitting in between Jayden and Seth is monumentally the equivalent of heaven on earth. Seth enjoys pushing me around, especially when he laughs, which pushes me closer to Jayden. Whenever our knees touch or his hand brushes against mine, a giant surge of heart warming electricity courses through my body.
"Are you guys ready for Halloween?" Seth asked.
"Always. It's the greatest holiday ever," I said.
"Halloween marks the end of fun for all hockey players," Jayden said. My eyebrows raised at his comment, so he decided to be kind and elaborate for me. "Winter season starts in November for sports, which means longer practices and important games. This is our last opportunity to get a championship title for high school."
Seth exaggerated a cough from the back of his throat. "Buzz kill!" He muttered, through the cough.
I laughed, patting Jayden's shoulder in comfort. "Don't listen to him, JayJay. You're gonna get that championship, and Seth will be in the bleachers watching," I smirked, looking over at Seth.
"Whoa. Whoa. My fine self will be defending pucks all season long," Seth commented. "Before Emi starts helping people get away with murder, I'm gonna find some popcorn for the show," he added, leaving us in the bleachers of the school gym.
"I didn't know it then, but I've really missed that weirdo," I gushed. "Speaking of that weirdo, what was that little silent treatment you guys were having last week? Trouble in paradise?" I asked.
All I remember was that Seth lied to Jayden. Jayden said he'd talk to Seth about something. I assume it was something important. Our car ride home was the epitome of awkward tension between best friends.
Jayden tensed for a half a second, but recuperated before saying anything to me.
"Misunderstanding. I'm not going to lie, I overreacted about something," he vaguely explained.
Overreacted? Jayden is usually the most level headed person I know.
"About what?" I asked.
"Not telling," he deadpanned.
I squinted my eyes, scrutinizing his answer. Seth came back a few minutes later with two large bags of popcorn, fresh from the microwave.
"Did you sneak into the cafeteria and make popcorn for yourself?" I asked.
