PART 4
“Violet? What are you doing here?” He stared at me, confused.
“Nothing. My plan of the day was just to be pushed into a locker and get beaten up by your girlfriend.” I stated, matter-of-factly.
“My girlfriend?” Baffled, he looked around as if some girl would pop into the air.
I tilted my head to Kelly’s incredulous expression.
“Nicky, you’re so fun-ny! You know I’m your girlfriend, right?” She batted her eyelashes like crazy.
“Um, I never said that, Kelly. We went out on one date, and it was awkward. You only talked about yourself the whole entire time!” He backed away from her and looked at me.
Kelly’s face turned red with embarrassment and fury.
“F-Fine! I never liked you anyway. You’re…” She stuttered, trying to find a flaw about Nick.
“Too perfect?” His face was plastered with a confident grin.
I chuckled. Kelly was so red I thought she was going to explode. She stormed off with her posse shooting hateful looks at me. I turned around; it was time for my next class.
“Wait, Violet. What’s your next class?” Nick stopped me by grabbing my arm.
“German with Mr Hotspilt.” I beamed; German was my favourite class.
“Same. I’ll walk you to class.” He put his arm around me like I one of his ‘pals’.
We walked in a comfortable silence for a while, until he piped up.
“I’m sorry about Kelly. She can be a bit… possessive about things that don’t even belong to her.” He looked at my apologetically.
I was surprised that he was the one apologizing, but I didn’t show it. When we arrived at the classroom, the teacher wasn’t there yet, so we took a seat at the back quietly. The class gasped when they saw Nick sitting with me. Freak girl and the most popular guy in the school? Their expressions said it all. I blushed and kept my head down. Nick nudged me and flashed me one of his signature smirks. The class gasped even more, sucking all the oxygen in the air. Finally, the teacher strolled in with his books and told us to settle down.
“Violet. What is the answer to the question on the board?”
Wo wohnen Sie? To me, it was just a jumble of random words.
Nick leaned over towards me as whispered in my ear.
“Where do you live?”
“Huh?” I asked, dumbly.
“The answer is ‘where do you live?’.” He hissed softly.
Oh. I repeated what he told me and the teacher nodded and gave me a smile. See? Nice teacher.
The teacher dismissed us and we headed to our next class. Funny, I didn’t notice that Nick was most of my classes until today. In fact, I barely knew him.
As soon as we stepped into our English class, Ness waved at me then cast her eyes at Nick. Her blue eyes widened, and she shot me a meaningful look. She obviously wanted to know how I became so friendly with the hottest guy in school in just two periods. I gave her a look back, telling her I would explain ASAP. She smiled and went back to studying her textbook. Nessa was easily satisfied, and that’s what I loved about her. She could wait, but wanted to know the answer sooner or later.
I took a seat two rows behind her and slid my mobile out of my pocket. I opened my messages and looked at the first message.
Ness: When did you turn into a guy magnet? ;)
Vi: Didn’t. It just happened. :)
Ness: Damn. I wish I was there when it ‘happened’.
Vi: Trust me, U don’t. I was about to be bitch-slapped by Kelly and her gang.
Ness: OMG- I will get revenge for U. :(
Vi: Nah, don’t. I got something out of it, at least. :D
Ness: :D
Our English teacher walked in and I replaced my phone back into my pocket. The teacher started introducing a new project we were going to do that determined a majority of our grade. We had to do it in partners, though. Ness’ face told me she didn’t mind if I went with Nick. I gave her a look of gratefulness. She smiled and turned back around.
“So… partners?” Nick asked.
“Sure!” I said, a little bit too excitedly.
“Okay, I’ve got some ideas…”
We spent the whole lesson looking at old English scripts, from the past century. When we finished our notes, Nick looked over at me and said, “Do you want to hang out on the weekend?”
“Oh, um, yes. Okay.” I nodded slowly, a smile creeping onto my face.
“Cool. Meet me at the coffee shop down the road at about 10am, okay?” He waved and walked off.
My heart pounded hard. My face was grinning so hard, it felt like it was going to explode. For the first time, in what seemed like years, I was totally and utterly happy. Who knew one guy could make me feel this way?
My mobile vibrated and I pulled it out. It was probably Ness, wanting an update on Nick.
UNKNOWN NUMBER:
Wow, sis. You have such a great taste in guys…
Too bad it always end up in tears. Remember Josh? Maybe you should just skip this Saturday; you don’t want your heart broken again, do you?
Mel xx
My smile had vanished, just like that.
