Tap, tap, tap.

The sound grew louder and louder until Cath couldn’t bare it anymore. Throwing her duvet off her body, allowing for a cold wave to hit her, she left the bed towards the sound which was beginning to give her a headache. There he was. Standing there. In the rain. Drenched. Outside her window at 3 am. On a Saturday.

Groaning, she slid open her window.

“What do you want, Levi?”

“Well hello to you too!”, flashing his pearly whites at her.

“Seriously, Levi. It’s three in the morning and I’m tired!”

“I was kept awake by Eleanor and Nick arguing and I couldn’t stand it. Can I sleep here for the night?”

Walking away, Cath told him to close the window once he climbed up. She crawled back into the duvet cave and was quickly joined by Levi who had stripped down to his t-shirt and boxers. He pulled her into him, her head coming into contact with his warm chest and Cath soon fell asleep to the slow rhythm of his heartbeat.

Cath and Levi were best friends and had been ever since Levi gave her his sloppy saliva covered lollypop to stop her crying when her doll got paint in its hair. They were so close that sleeping in underwear and the same bed was normal. Every time Levi’s sister Eleanor and her boyfriend started arguing he would traipse over to Cath’s house and stay the night. By the time she woke up, he was usually gone.

This time, however, was different.

Levi was still asleep when Cath woke up at ten. She prodded him in the chest with her elbow, trying to escape his death grip, dying for a pee.

“Oww!” he shouted. She quickly put her hand over his mouth.

“Shit! Sorry! I really need to pee!”

Glancing at the clock, he realised he’d slept in for work.

“Crap! It’s fine, honestly, I’m late for work!”

Levi threw on his clothes and climbed out of the window muttering a ‘see you later’ to Cath.

“What a dumb nut.”
