THE BIG FOUR DARK AU
A/N: okay, this is probably one of the darkest things I've ever written. I don't like it for numerous reasons; the writing sucks, I ruined my favorite characters, and the timing makes no sense. Okay, so imma warn you right now. This is extremely dark and depressing. No death, but there are mentions of: abuse, self harm, death, drugs, alcohol, sex, foul language, etc. So... If you aren't comfortable with angst or depression, please don't read. I love you and don't want to "ruin" disney for you or trigger you in anyway.
If you are dealing with any problems these characters are, please don't hurt yourself. I love you, and others do to. You are better than me, better than this. I may not know you but I know you are alive and reading this right now for a reason. Put down the razor, look into the mirror, and smile for me. Thank you.
if you are deciding to read this shit, may the force be with you.

______________________"It's so fucking cold."
The four teenagers were lazily walking through New York, the bitter air clinging onto the Scottish redhead's sleeves. It was about 2:00 am, crowded streets and other lonely teenagers wandered around, almost as high and almost as broken as well.
"Merida!" The beautiful blonde beside her scowled playfully. "Cursing is bad for the soul, you know."
Merida opened her mouth to respond but was beaten by a certain blue-eyed Jackson Overland.
"Yeah, Princess. Shut the fuck up." He smirked at her, his icy blue eyes sparkling with mischief. She narrowed her sky blue eyes, blowing a bright red curl out of her eyes in annoyance. She wanted to beat the shit outta him right then and there.
Jack's smirk fell when his long-term crush calmly run his own fingers through his hair. "Shh," Hiccup cooed. "Now is not the time for fighting." He slung his arm around Jack's shoulder, his eyes foggy as he took another puff of his cigarette. Hiccup was extra flirty to Jack when drunk, and it almost made Merida pity Jack, considering Hiccup was still going strong with Astrid.
Merida tried her hardest not burst into laughter at the bright blush lighting Jack's pale cheeks. Actually, it was hard not to laugh in general. He had just dyed his hair earlier that night. His former brown hair now faded to white from the tip- giving him a punk look. It was weird, especially since she sat next to the previous Jack with glasses and braces in the 5th grade. "Whatever... Frosty," she smirked, referring to his hair. She got a light punch in return.
She glanced at the blonde beauty beside her. Rapunzel (her real name is Penny, but with she has stuck with the nickname since forever) was drunkenly rambling about how weird her new short hair felt- and how she was even considering dying it brown. Merida couldn't concentrate on what she was saying though, she could only focus on the blonde's pale pink lips. Did hers feel just as numb as Merida's did? As far as she could tell, Rapunzel's lips seemed extremely warm and soft.
"Merida... Merida!" Rapunzel's melodic voice snapped her out of it. "Hello?"
"Hm?"
Jack snickered, earning a hard kick from the feisty red head.
"I was just saying that it's weird that our last day of graduation is tomorrow..." Her eccentric pale green eyes were widening with realization. "This'll probably be my last time to sneak out with you guys.... The last time we will have no worries about responsibilities. We'll have to go back to the stupid support group next week, and forget our freedom." They all cringed as she mentioned the support group. Rapunzel previously self harmed, Jack attempted to drown himself, Merida was found locked in her room with nothing but stolen liquor and cigarettes, and Hiccup was found crazily wandering through houses, dazed. Their punishment? Support group.
It wasn't that bad. They all started talking and became inseparable because of it; but other than that it was hell.
Merida nodded meekly. "You're right..." She took the cigarette from Hiccup's finger tips and took a huff, closing her eyes. She wanted to forget everything. She felt the burning smoke slowly evaporate from her lungs as she released the breath she didn't realize she was holding.
They all walked to the nearest bench silently, the stench of their vodka and smoke still in each other's breath.
"Fuck it," Jack muttered, bitter laughter escaping his lips. "Fuck it all! Let's go crazy. Let's run away. Fuck school, fuck life. Let's go!" Tears began streaming down his cheeks, but he kept laughing. "Fuck life. Fuck it!"
Merida shook her head with pity. She couldn't stand him, but he had it the roughest out of all of them. Rapunzel had the controlling, verbal abusive mother, Merida had the parents who favored her brothers and didn't accept her life style, Hiccup had to live with nothing but a black ally cat, Toothless, after his mother left and father... Well, he was murdered. But Jack...Sweet, reckless Jack was beaten senseless after his sister died. Everyday, he was whipped and belted by his own father. He had scars over his body to prove it. The only reason he's alive is for his friends. He was a sarcastic, devious madman, trapped in his own desperate thoughts, clinging to the escape from reality.
"Rapunzel," Merida suddenly whispered, turning to stare into the blonde's intent green eyes. "I love you. I just want you to know that. I know you're head over heels for that Flynn guy, but I had to tell you. I love you. I wasn't going to tell you, but ever since I met you, I was addicted. You're worse than my alcohol, you know." She added lightly, taking a deep breath. It felt good to get that out.
She was alarmed when the sweet bitter taste pink lips met her own. The kiss was slobbery and messy, but it was still the best thing she has ever felt. Rapunzel's lips were warm and soft, matching her rough icy lips perfectly. Yet, at the same time it felt like she wasn't kissing Rapunzel. It felt like she was kissing another broken, desperate girl, trying to forget reality and escape their problems and tears.
Rapunzel pulled away, a devious spark in her eyes. "Forget Flynn," she whispered. "Forget responsibilities. Forget being me." She took the cigarette from Merida's hands, taking a long slow inhale. Merida could only stare at the stranger before her. "Tonight, we rule the world." She whispered, the smoke escaping her lips and lingering onto Merida.
Okay, that wasn't exactly the declaration of love Merida was hoping for, but it was still better than what she was expecting. One night with false love and drunken lust was all she deserved. She desperately needed one night of escape. Merida flashed Rapunzel a grin. "I'm in."
Jack grinned weakly. "There you go, blondie." Merida saw the sadness in his devious alluring eyes, and couldn't help but wonder if he wished he had the courage she had and told Hiccup how he felt.
Jack miserably watched Hiccup jump up excitedly, his eyes filled with longing. "Fuck yeah!" Hiccup threw his fist in the air. The others couldn't help but smile. Damn Hiccup's contagious laughter.
The foursome ran through the unforgiving streets of New York, drunkenly stealing kisses and singing from the top of their lungs. That night, the world was theirs. That night, it was just them.
