- Journal Entry 2, January 20th, 2030:
It's been about four months since me and my family left Texas. Currently, we're stowed away in an old storage building in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania. We reached Maine over three months ago, but the virus just kept spreading and we were forced to leave the state, after it became overrun by the Lurkers.
Lurkers.
That's what most of us have been calling them. We've been laying low in this abandoned building nearing a month and a half now, hardly surviving. Ethan has fallen sick and the rest of us are tired, dirty and dehydrated. We plan to leave as soon as my brother gets well, but it has proven difficult to leave for even a few minutes with the amount of Lurkers that reside here in Northern Pennsylvania. We would have kept moving, but when my brother fell ill the Lurkers were at their highest and we were forced to stop. So far, we have heard nothing new about the virus; what it is, how it started or what it's actually doing to people. There are only four things that we do know as of now.
1. Lurkers can only be killed by completely separating their heads from their bodies or by piercing them through the skull and into the brain
2. The virus is spread by coming into contact with the blood of a Lurker and getting it within your own body (through your mouth, nose, eyes or an open wound)
3. Animals CAN be affected
4. There is no known cure at the moment.
I've estimated that the ratio of infected to clean is approximately 60-40, with the infected taking over more and more everyday. We can only hope for the best and pray that we make it somewhere safe soon.
