RORY DIDN'T THINK MUCH ABOUT nolan not showing up to the cabin last night. lia told her that nolan didn't feel well and decided to just go to bed right after dinner.

but just because she didn't think about that doesn't mean she forgot what he had said to her the night prior.

i have big feelings about you aurora. his voice echoed in the background of her dreams like a broken record, the memory of them almost kissing etched into her brain.

nolan liked her. and maybe she liked him? it was all confusing.

she knew she wanted him, for now. she didn't know what to do. she wanted to play it safe, for her and for nolan. maybe she just wanted him because june was back and she was jealous of her and carter? maybe her dreams were just getting the best of her? maybe nolan was confused because eve was back?

she didn't want anyone to get hurt. at least, she tried. someone was going to get hurt one way or another.

"morning sleepyhead" carter greeted her, his voice a little tired as he crawled into bed with her after his usual morning run. rory flashed him a small smile, resting her head on his shoulder before lacing their fingers together.

"i'm gonna tell you something, and promise me you won't get mad"

"oh dear lord what is it this time?"

"basically, nolan's toxic ex is here. and when i say toxic i mean toxic. she was horrible to him."

"they ran into each other and she tried to get with him, and because i was the only girl with nolan and he didn't want to fall into that again we —"

"started pretend dating" carter cut her off, rory's eyes went wide as she lifted her gaze towards her boyfriend who was — laughing?

she expected him to be fuming, or aloof. but there he was just, chuckling?

"yeah... how'd you know?"

"lia told me."

"when? why?"

"last night. we ran into nolan's ex when we were getting cream puffs at the dessert table. nolan told lia all about her, so she told me all about her, and explained the whole fake dating thing to me. it's fine ror, i get it"

"you're not mad?"

"you're only trying to help the guy. i get it. it's what i love about you, you're always willing to help people", carter smiled, kissing the top of rory's head

"plus it's fake, nolan's gonna need a lot of help. especially with his acting skills, or lack thereof"

"more like none at all" lia chimed rising, sitting up from her bed to unplug her phone from her charger. forgetting to cover her neck and the top of her chest like she was planning on doing before she could put makeup on them.
