AN:
ABO but untraditional. Little Cait and little Vi are buddies in elementary school and Mrs. Kirraman has a problem or two about that.
"This is an outrage!"
Mrs. Kirraman slammed her palms down on the table. Her daughter and husband flinched at the loud bang it caused, clearly jot nearly as worked up about the situation as she was.
"I deeply apologize ma'am. I'll have a talk with my daughter about this and it won't happen again."
"You mean to tell me that you sent your pup to school scented and didn't bother to tell her to keep her marking to herself?" Her blue eyes burned with fury, looking back to the teacher. "I need to know something will be done about this."
The teacher nodded. "I'll make sure it doesn't happen again."
"No," she snapped, snarling. "That's not enough. This—this animal scented my daughter. Claimed her as hers, a member of her pack. It's unacceptable."
"I...I don't know what else you want me to do, Mrs. Kirraman. I think this is a reasonable response to the situation. The other pups mark each other regularly. Caitlyn and Vi are friends. But if that's a boundary crossed for you, we can make sure it doesn't happen again."
The other mother nodded, pushing a strand of violet hair out of her face. "My daughter didn't know any better and I didn't think to tell her because this is a normal thing for kids to do with their friends and I've never heard of parents having an issue with it." She glanced at the Kirraman's daughter who looked like she might crawl out of her skin and into a quivering ball of embarrassment. "Plus, Caitlyn scented my daughter too. Let's just call it even."
But something snapped in Cassandra Kirraman's composure. She lowered her voice but still hissed the statement laced with venom. "My daughter is an omega. You know there's a power dynamic here and you pretend there isn't. What would our world be if any alpha could just scent any omega they wanted? Do you not see how that's a problem?"
Vi chuckled lightly.
"You think this is funny?"
"No! You're red! The only person I've seen get so red was Powder when I drew a goatee on Ms. Hopper," she giggled, somewhat nervous but still failing to hide her childish amusement. Caitlyn smiled at the other pup, now also amused by the observation her alpha friend had made.
The woman rolled her eyes. "I don't have time for your kid games. But if your daughter acts this inappropriately toward my pup ever again, I will do whatever I have to to get her away from my Caitlyn." She bent down slightly to look Vi in the eyes. "Do you understand me?"
Her mother pulled her pup close, glaring at the other mother. "Excuse me! You don't talk to my daughter like that."
"I'll protect my daughter the way I see fit." She turned to her child and husband. "Let's go. I have a council meeting later tonight and we need to get you washed up," she said to her pup. She turned back to the teacher and Vi's mother one last time. "Then we're agreed."
And with that, they left.
____________
"Hey," the small omega chirped. It was time for recess, but things were more tense between the two pups after last night's parent teacher conference.
Vi turned to look at her, her messy locks in her face. "Hi," she replied sadly. "I guess we can't be in a pack anymore."
Caitlyn rocked back and forth on her heels and toes, holding her hands behind her back. "We don't have to smell like each other to be in a pack." She brought her hand forward and in it was a strip of ribbon. "My mom always puts them in my hair but you don't really have much of that. Maybe I could put it on your wrist?"
The young alpha smiled. "Yeah! I would like that." She extended her arm to the other girl who took her time carefully tying a pretty bow to secure the ribbon to her friend's wrist.
When she was done, she excitedly brought her hands together, clasping them and holding them close to her chest. "It looks very good on you," she commented. I've smiled a thank you and rotated her arm, palm up and then palm down, admiring their new way of declaring their friendship.
Caitlyn giggled for a moment before reaching out and poking the alpha on her shoulder. "Tag!" she squealed before running off.
And just like that, Vi chased after her. The two played as if nothing had happened at all.
