So, I've been wanting ear piercings for quite some time now, and it left me wondering, "Why do people give their babies piercings?"
First off, this is pretty damn cruel. Who would do this to their child? The baby isn't even able to express their will yet, if not barely. Do they want this?
And in most cases, this is done to distinguish a child's gender from others.
Bullshit.
What if they were born in the wrong body? What if you do this, and your kid wants to be male, and doesn't want earrings, which are mainly worn by women? What then? Now they have a hole in their ear that they shouldn't have been damned with.
And anyways, babies feel pain on a larger scale than adults, so to inflict this pain on to your three month old daughter is just abhorrent.
And who's to blame? You did this to your child.
I believe that everyone should be able to get their ears pierced, but they should be able to make the executive decision to do so when they've thought of what consequences could come of this. It's their life that they should be able to control. You should be in no position to dictate this. You are meant to be here to support them. Not to control them.
