0. An Explanation (FAQ)

Hello everyone, just a bit of set up for this fic. In this "Zero Chapter", I'll explain formatting and set up my Headcannons for these characters.

Feel free to skip this if you'd like, in my opinion it doesn't interfere with the enjoyment of the story to read this or not. Refer to it as more of an FAQ guide perhaps.

First, this fic changes perspectives fairly often. They will be marked with a

+

when the perspective changes.
When Mondo and Taka are in the same room, I write in third person omniscient with some slight limitations.
When Mondo and Taka are not in the same room, the perspective shifts usually back and forth between them in true third person limited.

Onto the Headcannons.

•This story is taking place in the American school system, because I don't feel personally educated enough in the Japanese school system to write about it.

•Kiyotaka is Japanese American (his grandfather was still Japan's prime minister and fucked over their family, Kiyotaka himself was born there, and his family left for America when he was too young to remember).

•I write Mondo as just unspecified American, I honestly don't even think he himself would know his genealogy so I left it alone.

•Mondo is not the only leader of the Crazy Diamonds, Daiya is alive and the accident hasn't happened at all. They co-lead as of the start of the story.

•Kiyotaka's mom lives across the country

•Hiro is a stoner (obviously)

•Mondo has been to Juvy 2x for varying lengths of time before he turned 18, and been held for a few days in an actual prison after becoming a legal adult (Daiya bailed him out ASAP)

•Chihiro has already completed their gender exploration journey and is openly non-binary
