The Codex was a secret underground facility designated for the testing of certain subjects and the creation of Artificials: man-made objects. They aimed for perfection: all Artificials must have abided by the three laws of the Codex, and all Scientists would never disobey their law. There were no written records of contradictions for either of this. Everything seemed perfect...too perfect.

A crack in reality was found on the premises. Efforts were done to contain it, but everyone knew how much fear it instilled in their minds. Even the Artificials knew...some of them, at least. It didn't take long for all hell to break loose. Scientists were killed, Artificials were overloaded with knowledge, and the rest...? We don't talk about them.

There are now two sides to what's left of The Codex: a run-down, decaying building inhabited by remnants of code and long-abandoned databases...and The Zone, a strange and idealistic world of geometrics and familiarity, entered through an opening in the midst of the aftermath.
