Marc Anciel closed his locker door at the end of the day, still reeling from the past few days. On the first day of school, he'd become one of Paris' superheroes, Coccinelle! It was like he was living in one of the stories he wrote!
He was scared at first, believing he wasn't good enough but Tikki, his kwami who gave him the powers, talked to him, assuring him he was perfect for the job.
Luckily, he wasn't alone. He had Cheshire Cat, his partner, who helped him at every opportunity, just like Marc would for him.
They were already getting along great, arranging patrols around Paris, getting to know each other as best as they could. Marc would be lying if he said he didn't have a little bit of a crush on him. He was just so sweet, on one of their patrols, he'd slipped on a chimney and Cheshire had caught him before he hurt himself.
Spotting Tikki poking out of his hoodie pocket, he gently patted her head.
"Hey, now that school's over, I can get you some more stuff. You said you like sweet things, and my friend, Marinette, her parents run a bakery. We could drop by there and get some macarons and cookies for you," Marc smiled.
Tikki looked down, a little sad.
"Tikki? You okay?", he asked, a soft look on his face. She always seemed a little sad when he mentioned Marinette.
"Yeah, I'm okay!" she said, smiling at him, though Marc knew it was fake.
"Okay, but just know you can always talk to me if you need something," he reminded her, walking out to the courtyard.
"Damn, it's raining," he muttered, pulling up his hood. "I'll be soaked by the time I get home."
Stopping at the doors, he was unsure if he should wait it out, or go straight home. It was at least a twenty-minute walk, and he had no money for a bus or taxi.
"Hey, you okay?"
Marc was pulled out of his thoughts by someone behind him. Turning his head, he saw a boy with soft red hair and sharp turquoise eyes, wearing a black blazer with a red T-shirt and purple jeans, holding an umbrella.
"Oh, yeah, I'm fine! It's just kind of a long walk home and I can't get a bus or a taxi!"
"Oh, then do you want this? My place is only around the corner," Nathaniel offered, holding out a black umbrella.
"Oh, are you sure?"
"Of course, you need it," the boy reassured, flashing a dazzling smile."Thank you," Marc said, taking the umbrella and opening it. "Hey what's your name?"
"Nathaniel Kurtzberg."
"Marc Anciel."
"Nice to meet you, Marc."
"You too."With that, Nathaniel walked away, leaving Marc blushing on the top step.
"Aw, he was so sweet," Tikki cooed.
"Yeah, he was," Marc sighed.Hopefully, he'd see Nathaniel again tomorrow.
—————
Nathaniel Kurtzberg was living in a dream. In the last few days, he'd become Cheshire Cat, the black cat superhero with the power of destruction! God, it was like he'd jumped into one of the worlds in his drawings!
Plagg, his kwami who granted him his powers, was a great help with his powers and what he could do, despite his obsession with disgusting smelling cheeses. Nathaniel would have to start buying perfumes to cover it up.
And Coccinelle was incredible. He's really smart, always coming up with awesome plans to defeat the Akumas. He's kind too, really kind, comforting the victims after they'd been turned back to normal, telling them it wasn't their fault. He was truly a miraculous partner!
His day was made even better when he gave his umbrella to a boy he met at the doors: Marc Anciel.
Nathaniel couldn't get Marc out of his head. His fluffy black hair, his emerald green eyes, his soft smiles. It was like he'd come out of artwork too.
"Aww, it looks like you've got a thing for him and Coccinelle!" Plagg teased from his blazer pocket.
"Whatever Plagg. I just met Marc and I've only known Coccinelle a few days," Nathaniel argued, laughing a little. "
Now come on, if I get my homework done by five-thirty, I can start my patrol early," he said, turning the corner of the street.
Maybe he'd see Marc again tomorrow.
