The steady hum of the floatplane's engine was a good sign that the weather wasn't that bad for now, hopefully it would stay that way. A few flakes of snow in the violent wind blew against the plane, its not like it mattered, they'd be landing soon. At least thats what they thought. Because thats when it happened. Thats when the lights went out. A dull, black sky, now filled with green and purple. An aurora. A light in the sky, dancing with such a beauty that mere words cannot describe it. Thats when the lights went out. The planes engine just stopped without warning; Mackenzie only noticed once the blades stopped moving.
"What the...." mumbled Mackenzie, tapping the dashboard.
"Is something wrong?" Astrid asked.
"...yeah I think so..." said Mackenzie.
"What is it?" Astrid asked, somewhat worried.
"We're crashing. Brace for impact!" yelled Mackenzie.
Astrid turned quickly to see that they were plummeting towards the mountains and trees. She reached out for Mackenzie's hand and found it, she grasped it tightly and closed her eyes as they descended faster than they could cry.Mackenzie opened his eyes, staring straight into the sky, still dancing green and purple, with the fire of his crashed plane in the mountain above. He had fallen into a ditch, luckily he was alive because the trees broke his fall when he smashed through the windsheild. His head was spinning, racing with questions like, "What just happened?" He tried to stand up pushing himself off the ground with his hands when he yelped with pain. A chunk of scrap metal from the plane was piercing right through his left hand. He hadn't noticed it due to the adrenline. Then he remembered. Astrid. Was she ok? Is she dead? How injured is she? Mackenzie then found his voice to call out, "Astrid! Where are you?!" To which there was no reply. Then Mackenzie felt a sharp pain in his left hand, the adrenline was beginning to wear off. He felt that the only thing to do was to rip it out of his had. Mackenzie placed his hand onto the piece of metal and begun to tug through the screams and agony of it until it came loose and slid out of his hand. Then he tore off part off his sleeve and made a bandage with it that he wrapped around his hand. It was less likely to become infected now, that was good. Mackenzie now stood up and looked around him. He saw a cave nearby and a way to climb out of the ravine. He climb out in the morning, for now he needed to sleep, the fire of the plane would keep him warm whilst he slept.
