Y/N seemed to have her summer all planned out. Going to the arcade with her friends, going to the mall just so she would have an excuse to blow money she didn't have, maybe even a party here and there if she were up for it. She had waited the long duration of the school year just for the sweet, hot freedom of summer vacation.

But then, Lucy Emerson called. The woman who had babysat her for given childhood, and the woman that Y/N's mother called, "Her sister from another mister.".

So maybe that's exactly where the trouble started for Y/N. When Ms. Emerson called Y/N's mother, chatting as they would every couple of weeks. Y/N figured that maybe Lucy had a few too many glasses of wine as she spoke, because suddenly her mother ran into her room, introducing the idea of shipping her off to Santa Carla, California for the whole summer.

Y/N had really questioned for a few moments if her mom had taken drugs or not, because if it were any other family, Y/N's mother of course would've refused.

Even though Y/N scoffed and fought with her mom for two whole days about it... it was decided. Y/N would be practically thrown all the way across the country, away from her friends, and her... "boyfriend". And, let's just say... she was definitely not too happy about it.

It wasn't the fact that Y/N didn't love or miss the Emerson's. No. In fact, she adored them all. She had grown up with Sam, even sharing their first kiss with one another. When they left, a certain piece of her left with the chaotic, small family. Starting high school sucked without Sammy, as they had always talked about it growing up, and how Sam promised he would be her date to their first prom.

When school finally ended, she packed her things, huffing and whining with her best friend, who as well was very dissatisfied with Y/N's parting for the next two and a half months.

But what Y/N would come to find out, is that Santa Carla wasn't just filled with alternative, surfing weirdos. It was much more beneath the surface. A beautiful & terrifying surface.

And maybe, just maybe... her mindset on everything would change after meeting Edgar Frog.
