I was standing by Bella’s truck, waiting on her. I sat on the hood and lightly swung my feet. I was looking over at the Cullen’s. Mainly at Jack. His eyes met mine and we just stared at each other.
Bella finally joined me. I looked at her and sarcastically grinned.
“Look who finally graces me with her presence”
She gave me a bored look.
“While waiting on you, I named the truck”
“You…what?”
“I named the truck.”
She sighed. “What did you name it?”
I grinned widely. “I named it the Wildebeest. You hear it before you see it”
“Get in the truck. We have to go grocery shopping”
I groaned. “Grocery shopping is so dull and boring. I hate grocery shopping”
“I’ll buy you candy”
“Well, you should’ve started with that”
She looks across the lot and looks at Edward. I followed her eyes and looked at him as well. I looked back at Bella before smirking.
“You like him”
“I don’t like him. I barely know him”
“That doesn’t mean anything. You can still like him”
“Get in the truck Austen”
“Ouch, full name.” I joked while still smirking.
There was suddenly a screech. Bella and I looked and saw Tyler’s van-skidding on the ice, careening out of control, heading directly towards us.
Before the van could hit us, Edward and Jack were in front of us. They stopped the van with their hands.
I was in Jack’s arms because I had fallen off the truck when the back end of the van hit it. My arms were around his neck. I stared at him with a frightened look as I clung to him.
He gently sat me on the ground next to Bella and him and Edward ran off. There were screams from all around and we were surrounded by classmates and our friends. I looked around but didn’t see Jack anywhere.

Bella and I were in the hospital. Dad bursts through the door.
“Bella, Aussie. You and I are gonna talk” He spoke to Tyler.
“We’re fine dad. Calm down”
“I’m so sorry Bella and Austen. I tried to stop”
“It’s okay”
“It sure as hell is not okay”
I said, “Dad, it’s not his fault”
“We nearly lost you both”
“But you didn’t”
“You can kiss your license goodbye”
The door opened again.
“I heard the Chief’s daughters were here”
We looked up and I saw a handsome doctor.
“Dr. Cullen”
Cullen?
“I’ve got them, Jackie”
He took our charts from the ER doctor.
“Both your x-rays show no indication of a concussion”
“I’m so sorry, Bella and Austen. I’m really-”
Dad abruptly pulls the curtain between us.
“It would have been a lot worse if Edward and Jack hadn’t knocked us out the way. Jack actually caught Aussie when she fell”
“Edward? Jack? Your boys?”
I said, “It was amazing. They got to us so fast. They were nowhere near us”
“Seems you were lucky”

We exit the treatment area.
“I just have to sign some paperwork. You better call your mom”
“You told her? She’s probably freaking”
He shrugs and hurries off. Bella is about to call mom when we heard voices. We peered around the corner and saw Dr. Cullen, Edward, Jack, and Rosalie.
“This isn’t just about you two, it’s about all of us”
“What were we supposed to do? Let them die?”
“Let’s take this in my office”
They looked over at us. Rosalie glared as Dr. Cullen escorted her away.
“Can I talk to you for a moment?”
Edward walked over to Bella. I looked at Jack and walked away. I heard him behind me. I turned a corner and faced him.
“How did you get over to us so fast?”
“We were standing right next to you”
“You were next to your car, across the lot”
He steps closer to me.
“No, I wasn’t”
“Yes, you were.”
“You’re confused. You bumped your head”
“I know what I saw. I’m not stupid”
“And what, exactly, was that? I never said you were stupid”
“You stopped that van. You pushed it away with your hand along with Edward”
“No one will believe that”
“I wasn’t going to tell anyone. I just want to know the truth”
“Can’t you just thank me and get over it?”
“Thank you Jack. For saving me. Could’ve been a lot worse. But why did you bother?”
“I…don’t know”
He turned and walked away. I watched him go.
