It was nearly sundown, and you had been waiting on your partner to show up. She was around 20 minutes late, and she was never late. You had gotten everything set up, half an hour ago, and it was just sitting there, untouched. You get up, ready to leave at this point, but then you feel a hand on your shoulder. You feel yourself tense up momentarily, before you turn your head slightly, just enough to see her, Kate. She carefully pushes down on your shoulder, sitting you back down, as she moves to the other side of the blanket, sitting down. She smiles softly at you,
"Sorry I was late, I was just getting something," she said. You sigh and look away, still kind of upset about the wait.
"It's fine, just don't do it again." You mumble, before taking a bite of your sandwich. Kate does the same, looking down at your hand. You can't help but notice her smile a little, which confused you a little. You take another bite and take a swig of your lemonade.
Eventually after you both finish eating, she helps you get up and she starts walking. You can't help but notice this wasn't the direction home, and you ask,
"Uhm, darling? This isn't the way home." However Kate ignored you and pulled you down behind a tree, smiling widely. You tilt your head in confusion before she gets down on one knee. She pulls out a small box and opens it, a small, bright diamond ring inside. You feel your face heat up, and you cover your mouth. She asks with a soft voice,
"Y/N, love of my life, will you marry me?" She was staring at you with a wide smile, a hope in her eyes. You can't speak for a moment, stunned, before crying and saying,
"Yes yes yes!!! Yes I'll marry you!" As you hug her close. Kate picks you up and carries you back home, tucking you into bed.

A few months later
——It was your wedding day, you were standing at the end of the hall, staring at the doors. You were trembling in slight excitement, you were excited to see how beautiful she would look in that dress. You hear the bells ring and the doors start to open. You feel yourself fidget, sweating now. She walks in, with a light blue gown at her feet, a veil over her face as she walks up to you. You stare at her in disbelief, still not believing you both were finally getting married. You smile once she gets up to you, and Kate smiles back. Eventually after he says his lines, the priest tells you guys to say your vows.
"Y/N, do you take Kate to be your wedded wife, to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, and forsaking all others, be faithful only to her, for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do." You say, confidentially, feeling everyones eyes on you.
"Kate, do you take Y/N to be your wedded (husband/wife/partner), to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love them, comfort them, honor and keep them for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, and forsaking all others, be faithful only to them, for as long as you both shall live?"
You watch her smile wide, like she always does when she's excited, and then proclaim,
"I do!"
"Alright, Y/N, you may kiss the bride."
You feel yourself start to blush and smile, before pulling her waist close and kissing her. You hear the crowd go wild, but you didn't seem to care, as everyone and everything around you faded away, the only thing in your mind was her, her lips, her body, her heart, nobody else mattered as much as her. You feel her arms wrap around your neck, pulling you closer, you didnt care if people expected you to stop, you just wanted to enjoy the moment. After a few moments you pull away from the kiss, finally remembering your surroundings. You smile at the crowd nervously, and wave.
What a great picnic that was.
