"So, I was sitting there, watching the sun set over the horizon when I heard it. A scream. It was one of those special screams, blood curdling, ear piercing, that kind of sound that makes the hair on your arms and back stand on end. I was stunned for a moment, fear and worry rushing through my body. I was tense till I relaxed when I realized... It was my own scream."
"O... okay, Mr. Jenning... Uhmmphf," the female police officer spoke, feeling uncomfortable and unsure of what to say or do. She pushed air out of her nose, looking at the male that towered over the rather tall desk she sat at. She was unsettled by him, his presence being both unnerving and warm. "What was your first name again, Mr. Jenning?" The police officer asked him, her voice wavering slightly when she said his name. Still uncomfortable, she held the pen in her hand tightly, keeping the tip of it pushed against the pad of paper underneath her small arm. The female fidgeted with her other hand.
The man in question hadn't stopped staring at her ever since he finished his report. His stare was somehow soft, even though he looked like he was going to pounce onto the poor officer at any moment. He didn't say anything for a minute, just heavily observing the girl. He deducted that she was younger than himself and was new to her job. Her fidgeting and uncomfortable expressions giving it away, the man found it quite adorable.
"She's such a small and fragile, little thing... How'd she end up with a job in the police force?" The male thought to himself while looking at her.
He placed his forearm on the top of the desk, having to hunch his back slightly so his arm would lay flat on the wooden surface. The polished wood was cool on his arm. "My name's, Ashton." He chirped softly to the girl. The officer made a sharp nod at his answer, her long platinum blonde locks fell to either side of her face from behind her ears. Ashton took notice of her ears, they were cute, and she wore little Doberman earrings. They looked like they were biting her earlobes...
"How, suitable. I should find some like those for-" Ashton's thought were interrupted by the loud ringing of an office phone. His back straightened a little and he lifted his head. The girl sitting across from him dropped her pen and mumbled an 'excuse me', followed by her greeting the other person on the phone, after she picked it up. Ashton's gaze laid back on the girl's face, his eyes drifted to the hairs that fell naturally beside it. The girl's hair was fried, as dry as a bone. Her hair screamed death by over bleaching. Ashton started thinking to himself again, "How unfortunate..."
The creaking, clacking, and clicking of the front doors sounded through the front office of the police department. Ashton's attention of pulled away from the girl to see who came into the building, it was a middle-aged man who walked in. He looked like a gentle giant depicted in children's stories, his broad shoulders slightly caved in over his chest from his hunchbacked posture. He wore a seasoned cargo jacket and washed out, dark blue jeans. The jeans folded and creased softly, and had some little stains and tears, a sign of lots of wear. The man looked up to the front desk as he walked in, he noticed the officer was busy on the phone and Ashton was already standing there, looking at him as well. So, the man walked over to the row of the typically stiff cushioned, waiting room, office chairs that lined most of the walls in the spacious front office with the occasional fake potted plants. Who doesn't like a diverse color palette, a nice splash of neon green amongst the dull blue, gray, yellowing white, and some more gray. How... distinguished, said no one, ever. The polite looking man tracked a little bit of dirt in from the outside on his very worn-out looking work boots. Ashton's eye drifted up to the man's face.
"Ho oh... How interesting." Ashton thought to himself, while grinning inwardly.
