Bella and I were home. I had gotten Jack’s number while on the bus so I’ve been texting him the entire way home. We entered the kitchen and Bella puts her bag in the chair across from dad.
“Your mother called. Again”
“Your fault, for telling her about the almost accident. You finished?”
“Yeah”
She got his plate and put it in the sink.
“She always did know how to worry. But…she’s changed too. She seems happy. Phil sounds all right”
“He is”
She poured the rest of her water down the drain before going upstairs.
“Okay then”
I grinned slightly. “I have a date to prom”
Dad looked at me. “You do?”
I nodded. “Jack Dawson-Cullen. He’s in my grade”
“One of Dr. Cullen’s sons?”
“Yeah”
Dad nodded. “Okay then”
“I’ll be in my room”
He nodded again. I grabbed my backpack and went upstairs. I continued to text Jack with a smile.

We were at school the next day. It was lunch. We went to our friends.
“La Push, baby. You in?” asked Eric.
“Should we know what that means?”
“La Push beach down on the Quileute Rez. We’re all going after school. Big swell coming in” answered Mike.
“And I don’t just surf the internet” Eric stood up on his chair.
“Eric, you stood up once. On a foam board”
“There’s whale watching too. Come with us” said Angela.
“La Push, baby. It’s La Push”
“We'll go if you stop saying that” said Bella.
I just sat down at the table. I didn’t really want to go. I looked around the cafeteria. My eyes met Jack’s. He gave me a smile. I saw Edward go to the salad bar where Bella was. That should be interesting.
“Aussie?”
I looked up and saw Jack. Our friends looked surprised.
“Can I talk to you privately?”
“Okay?”
I got up and we went to an empty table and sat down.
“I have some theories about you”
“Theories?”
I nodded.
“Let’s hear them”
“How about radioactive spiders? Kryptonite?”
“You’re talking about superheroes. What if I’m not a hero? What if I’m a bad guy?”
“I don’t believe that. You’re not bad. If you were bad, you wouldn’t have saved Bella and I”
He looked surprised. I decided to have twenty seconds of courage.
