Arise: Chapter 3

Ghostpaw gulped as she padded forward silently, next to her Jadepaw. The moonlight shone on her pale, silver fur, making it look like it was glowing. Emberpelt talked to Frogpelt and Moonfur, while Shadowfur was having a quiet conversation with Sunstar, no doubt about what they were going to say about Owlclaw. Emberpelt pushed aside some bushes, revealing the Sacred Hex. Ghostpaw looked in awe, staring at the Highstones where the leaders sat. Lakeclan, MoonClan and Sunclan were already there, and their cats were mingling, although Sunclan and MoonClan seemed to be one large clan. "No wonder Moonclan and Sunclan are already mingling." Jadepaw whispered, narrowing his eyes. "I think something is going to happen between them."Ghostpaw turned her head to some rustling next to her, to see FireClan's leader, Palestar, emerge. Ghostpaw breathed a sigh of relief, for FireClan and Leafclan were allies, and would back them up at the Gathering. The chattering of cats filled the air, and Ghostpaw smiled. "I guess Gatherings aren't so bad..." She said to Maplepaw. "Lightningclan... come!" A voice boomed through the clearing. All talking stopped, and all eyes turned to see Rootstar, smugly walking towards the Highstones. Palestar and Sunstar had their fur raised, and they both narrowed their eyes, while Shakenstar, leader of Moonclan, and Soulstar, leader of Sunclan hissed as he passed by. Fishstar, leader of Lakeclan have a curt nod. Sunstar let Palestar begin, and she padded to the front of Highstones. Her white fur seemed to glisten in the moonlight as cleared her throat. "FireClan is fairing well. Prey is flooding our forest, and new kits have been born. I am also proud to announce a new apprentice, Cherrypaw." A ginger apprentice stood up shyly, while all the Clans chanted Cherrypaw. Ghostpaw sat quietly as MoonClan, Sunclan and Lakeclan briefly informed the cats of their clan. As soon as Sunstar finished, he flashed a threatning look at Rootstar, as if he were challenging him to speak. "Prey is scarce in Loghtningclan." Rootstar stated. Many of the cats gasped, as this was something a leader would not say. "The foothills that we call camp are not fit for living!" He yowled. "Leafclan has plenty of prey, you heard Sunstar. They are our neighboring clan. We should have the right to take prey from their territory." he stated. Yowls erupted, and Palestar stood up. "Silence!" She screeched, glaring at Rootstar. "Have you forgotten the Warrior Code, Rootstar?" He stared at her. "Blasphemy! SpiritClan has let our cats starve for too long! We cannot go in as one clan."

"One clan? What are you purposing?" Palestar said, shocked.

"Banish the Hex!" Rootstar shouted.

"Fishstar has agreed with me, we should break this Sacred Hex! We have agreed to co-lead our new clan, Stormclan! Shakenstar, Soulstar, you can combine your clans, and make Celestialclan! Together, Celestialclan and Stormclan will rule the forest!"

Shakenstar stood up, claws unsheathed. "What fools do you take us for? This is by far one of your worst ideas yet. You are a power-hungry fool, and your crowing as leader was an accident! You are not for to lead a clan!" He spat. Soulstar padded up to the old cat, looking surprisingly calm. "Shakenstar is right. About everything Rootstar. But a I have a question about your plan, if I may. You said 'Celestialclan and Stormclan will rule the forest. What will happen to Leafclan and Fireclan?" Sunstar and Palestar both nodded, hackles raised.

"They will be massacred."

Thunder roared through the sky, and Lightning flashed in the distance. Sunstar padded down for a second, talking to the small, horrified group of cats that was Leafclan. "Get ready to leave." He whisped under his breath. Jadepaw stared at Ghostpaw, moving closer so their fur was touching.

"SpiritClan, please show a symbol that this cat is either a lunatic or a genius!" Palestar begged, staring at the sky. "He is a lunatic!" Sunstar shouted. "Do you want to end up like the legend Tigerstar, from far away? Have you heard his story? He too, tried to conquer the lands! He was murdered, and lost all nine lives at once. Your warrior ancestors will not spare yours either, Roostar. This is madness."

Rootstar faced Sunstar, claws unsheathed.

"If this is madness, then so be it." He lunged at Sunstar, but missed. "Dad!" Jadepaw cried. Lighting flashed in the air, heating it up like it was Greenleaf. Thunder then rumbled, so loud, Jadepaw thought he would go deaf. .The air was filled with an odd, smoky smell. Two of the Sacred Trees were burning! "This either means one or the other." Rootstar shouted. "The two clans burning are Stormclan and Celestialclan... Or Leafclan and Fireclan."
