Someone once said that any fantasy has a little influence from reality. Bedtime stories are the first encounters children have with fantasies like fairy tales. And likewise, their influences from reality exist too. But these origins are not always as beautiful as portrayed in the stories. So, is it not possible for those hideous origins to pave their way into their beautified versions?

What harm could fairy tales do?

They say bedtime stories help children learn morals. There are also other things like watering their budding imagination and learning about various dangers of the world. Children do learn a lot of things from bedtime stories. But having bedtime stories reading session by yourself will have you know that these stories also have a lot of negative qualities.

Let's take the beauty and the beast story for example. The moral of the story seems to be that inner qualities should be valued over physical appearances. But a child might end up believing that all a beastly or toxic man realistically speaking needs is love to turn over a new leaf. Children are, after all, just like moist clay. The littlest touch can mold them into various shapes. So, it's very easy for things like these to influence them.

The Takeaway

Fairy tales make you believe in magic, prince charming, and happy endings. While those are not bad things, children get too into these concepts. You will find some children waiting for these even after they have grown up to the point they miss out on other wonders of life. So, let's be mad at fairy tales like Salem Ilese is mad at Disney.
