It was now only a week until he would get home. Everyday without him felt like tourture. Knowing on my home from work that I will come home to an empty apartment felt heartbreaking. He texted me as soon as he had time to do so. Asking how everything was with me and he asked about Sophie a lot as well. How it was going for her learning guitar. I once filmed Sophie while she was playing on the guitar and sent it to Alex. He said she was really talented and that he was so proud of her. When I told Sophie that her cheeks just turned red. I don't think I could have gone through being away from him without Sophie. She was just so supportive and we did stuff together that made me think of something else. I sent so many selfies of Sophie and me when we did stuff to show Al that I was okay. He was happy that Sophie took care of me when he was away, he always responded with My favorite girls, you look so cute <3 Miss u Dol so much!
I sort of got used to being without Alex, not like I forgot about him more like him being away turned into a routine. But I didn't want it to be our everyday lives. It was barely handable when he was away for a couple of weeks. Luckily what made it better was what Alex once said in our night calls when I told him how much I missed him.
-"Everytime you miss me, just look up to the moon. Think about how we both see the same moon even though we are far away. You could say our meeting place is the moon."
The ways he described things always blew my mind. He really had a thing for words. When he was away I just sat up late at night listening to his songs and paying attention to the lyrics. There was this particular line that got stuck in my head. "Somebody told the stars you're not coming out tonight, and so they found a place to hide." I have wanted a tattoo for a long time now but never seemed to find something that I really wanted. But to get that tattooed felt just right. I asked if Sophie wanted to join me and maybe she wanted to get something tattooed as well. She was so excited because she wanted a Lana Del Rey related tattoo for a long time now.
-"What does mom and dad say about you getting a tattoo?"
-"They were just happy for me."
-"Have you chosen what you want yet?"
-"A pair of cherries and then it's gonna say cherry underneath in cursive probably. On my forearm, not a big one, just small and simple. It's from a song from Lana's new album. What about you? What was it that made you wanna get a tattoo now?"
I handed my phone over with a picture of the line that was glued in my mind for the past weeks.
-"Oh I love it Dol! Where are you going to have it though?"
-"On my ribs, sort of underneath my left boob."
-"Does Alex know about you getting a tattoo?"
-"No, he has no idea, so it's a surprise when he comes home."
-"Right, he is coming home soon. It's been such a long time since I saw him. I bet you are longing to meet him."
-"I am, I really am." I said smiling, imagining feeling him around my arms. I have been imagining the day when he is coming home a lot, that is what has kept me going. To see him at the airport, giving him a needy kiss the first thing I do and wrapping my arms around.
We went into a tattoo shop that was near my place. Sophie did her first. She didn't even flinch during it. The process of getting the tattoo was not that painful, it just tickled a little. Sophie saw me biting my lip in discomfort, holding my hand and stroking it calmly.
-"It's almost finished." Said the tattooer.
-"You are doing so well Dol and it looks amazing."
-"Hopefully this pain will be worth it." I chuckled.
