The heavy blow that hits my stomach is like getting a punch from the former great boxer Muhammad Ali. The pain seems like to put my life into death that I longed for the air. My God, I’m still breathing! Wait! I’m Alive! Dramatically, I open my eyes, sniff for air, listen to sound around me and feel my clothes on. With so much happiness, I screamed out loud, ignoring who may hear it. But the fact that the night isn’t yet over, no one would probably be here to witness my joy. Perhaps, that rapist man realized I am only in size B, I thought. “Thank God, I’m flat chested!” =)
“H-hey! O-over there!” a needy voice startled me. I searched around from where the sound came and found a man lying in a pool of blood. Quickly, I run towards him and knelt at his level.
“A-are you okay?’ is the only thing that came out of my mouth. I’m so speechless at the sight of him and plus the fact that I don’t know what to do to help him.
“Okay? Okay?! Can you still say that in my condition, huh? Listen, why don’t you call the hospital or anyone that could bring me there?’ he said the words so insultingly as if he was never beaten or in pain.
“But I don’t have-“the man reached the phone to me and immediately, I dialed the police station. I told them where we were and to bring with them an ambulance. In few minutes, two police men have arrived with the staffs from the hospital. The police asked me for details of what happened while the staffs are lifting the bloody man to the stretcher and brought him inside the van ambulance. The van sets off its way leaving us three, the two police and I. As I narrate the crime, they try to make the interrogations light so as not to be offensive. When satisfied by the description of the rapist man and recorded the crime, we went straight to the hospital. They need to ask the man and checked for his vitals too.
As they drove me to the hospital, I felt a pang of ache in my heart knowing someone has sacrificed his life to get me alive. Once again, I thought of being cursed, that my life is always a magnet of danger. Before, my family had died in that car accident right in front of me and now here, a stranger has become a hero but nearly facing his death. I owe him my life as he offered his to me. But what if he demands of money? Could I ever give it, when all in myself I also need it? Tsk, another problem again. (*sigh*)
