The names on the screen made some sigh with relief and others with disappointment, while others were simply interested in watching the show or just didn't have any feelings whatsoever. Whichever category they fell under, the only thing left for them to do was watch the match until it was their turn.
"Now then, the two displayed on the signboard, come forward."
With Hayate's command, two figures moved from the crowd. Since the Genin were standing in straight rows with enough space in between each team, Sasuke and Yoroi had no trouble reaching the front under the gazes of the others.
Both Genin were covered in dirt and bruises with their conditions appearing very similar. However, despite one being older and supposedly more experienced, all eyes were on Sasuke who was just a rookie.
Whether it was the Jounin and Chunin who stood on the platform and were worried about what would happen since Sasuke had Orochimaru's curse seal or the Genin who saw him as a rival and strong opponent they wanted to battle against, this first preliminary competition had their full attention.
Hayate waited until both Genin stood facing one another before speaking again, "For the first battle, Akado Yoroi and Uchiha Sasuke have been selected. Any objections?"
"No."
Sasuke was familiar enough, although he looked like crap, so [Name] looked over the other person. Yoroi's clothing was just like Kabuto's. A purple sleeveless shirt and pants with a white short-sleeved shirt underneath, fingerless purple gloves, and the typical blue sandals of Genin. His Konoha forehead protector was worn like a bandana, covering his hair until no strands could be seen. Yoroi also wore sunglasses and a mask over his mouth that was hung from his ears and reached below his neck like a veil.
His chakra didn't appear to be anything special. It wasn't ridiculously weak like Lee or ridiculously strong like Neji or monstrous like Gaara. It was actually really normal considering the weirdos in this crowd.
But the level of someone's chakra didn't really help when it came to understanding how skilled someone was. The only information that could be garnered was whether that person could be able to use crazy jutsu and fight for a long time. No matter how normal Yoroi's chakra appeared, it didn't mean he could be underestimated. Not to mention...
[Name] trailed her eyes from Yoroi to Sasuke. It was minutely small from outside, but she could still recognize it. The purple and foggy chakra that Orochimaru had.
Even against a weak opponent, someone with that curse seal would still have trouble defeating them. Even standing should be extremely difficult.
Sasuke was really impressive, after all.
Takashi had no idea the trouble Sasuke was in. He only thought that the preliminaries were definitely beginning strong if the first person to fight would be the top rookie of their year. "Do you think he'll use the Sharingan on his first battle?"
"It's hard to say... His opponent reached this level, so he shouldn't be weak." Renji was just glad he wasn't the one battling it out with Sasuke for his first match.
Other than Team 7, who watched their teammate worriedly, not many noticed how strange Sasuke was. He did have the same confident smirk that always appeared when he was fighting, but he wasn't as relaxed as usual.
Hayate wouldn't worry about it, however. Since Sasuke was willing to fight in that state and the Hokage hadn't said anything, then he wouldn't intervene. "Then, we will begin with the first match. Everyone other than the two participants move to the upper level."
