He sat in the waiting room, his leg trembling. He wasn't sure how long it had been at this point. Hell, it almost felt like years had passed by since he was forced to sit down in an uncomfortable, black plastic chair. He had given up on trying to get himself in any sort of comfortable position when he realized there would never be one. Not until he heard those two words he longed to hear.

"Hey." Oliver sat down, trying to comfort his younger brother. He knew there would be nothing he could say that could possibly make him feel any better, but he felt the need to try. "I brought you something to eat." Lando shook his head, just as Oliver had anticipated.

"I'm not hungry." The silence grew stronger. For a hospital, it was a lot quieter than either man had anticipated. Oliver had figured Lando would refuse food; he wasn't much of one to eat when he was stressed, or worried. It was something out of the star's comfort zone completely, and perhaps that was what scared him so much.

"You know, it's kind of ironic..." Oliver trailed off, trying desperately to break the eerie silence, and to do anything to try and distract his brother from the intrusive negativity that seeped into his brain, despite logic telling him otherwise. He waited another few seconds before continuing. "I always figured you'd be the one in there, and we'd be- we'd be waiting out here... for you" his voice went soft toward the end of his sentence. It had been something that weighed heavily on Oliver's mind; what if his baby brother was involved in an accident such as the one that brought the pair of them to the hospital? He knew it came with the territory; it was his job, after all. But naturally, that didn't stop him from worrying any less.

"It should have been me" he muttered, rubbing his hands through his hair. "Why her? If it weren't for me, she wouldn't be here" he added as an afterthought, finally jumping from his chair. He began to pace the waiting room floor, the weight of his left pocket seemingly weighing him down.

"It was an accident, Lando" Oliver tried to reason, though he knew there was no use.

"If I hadn't had been late-"

"You can spend your entire life going through the what ifs, but it's only going to drive you mental, you know that" Oliver advised him, dropping a little bit of older brother wisdom on his younger sibling.

"I wish that made me feel even the slightest bit better" Lando half laughed, though there was nothing funny about it. "Where in the bloody hell is the doctor!? He should have been out by now" he began to pace back and forth faster, though he wasn't covering much ground. Waiting rooms were different these days. Though things in the world were slowing climbing towards a new normal, there were of course several things, that remained unchanged.

"I know. I wish I had better advice to offer you" Oliver confessed with a frown. "You just need to think about the good times" he blurted out before he had the chance to stop himself. Lando looked confused, so he pressed on. "You know, all the fun dates you went on, all the fun times you had... that's how you have to think of her"

Lando paused for a moment, stopping himself from speaking. With his brother's words, he could feel a strong tingling sensation take over his entire body; it felt like he was not himself. He remembered the first words they exchanged. The first day they met. Their first date. Their first kiss. Their first everything. His eyes began to well up with tears, as he looked to his older brother.

"Did I ever tell you the story of how we met?"

******************

Who knew beeping could be so loud? She laid in her hospital bed, IV in place, arms slightly bruised. The doctors and nurses had come in and out of the room so many times since her arrival, it would be impossible for anyone to keep track. She wasn't conscious, that much was obvious. She simply laid there, dead to the world, but very much alive. It was a miracle how she was still alive. She didn't even see it coming; they had a red light. She was rushing, but only slightly. She was anxious to get to her destination but wouldn't know she wouldn't make it there.

But maybe I'm getting ahead of myself here. You're probably wondering how she got here, in this position. You're probably wondering even, who the heck is this? Why is she so significant? Well, the answer, as it turns out, isn't quite that simple. What happened, or how she ended up here isn't a short story. In fact, it turns out to be quite complex.

You might want to sit down and fasten your seatbelts. This story is not for the faint of heart. This won't be one of your "girl meets boy, they fall in love, and then live happily ever after". This will be full of heartbreak, full of drama, and full of twists you won't see coming.

Still, you're here? Okay, don't say I didn't warn you.

This is the story of Olivia Levesque, and how she found herself in an accident that caused her to lay in the hospital, awaiting a miracle to save her.
