"So many!" I screamed out at Cara as we went through college brochures.
"I know! It's ridiculous!" She groaned. I put my head against the table and the brochures flew everywhere.
"Where have you applied?" She asked me moments later, laughing as I rubbed my head from where I banged it on the table.
"Only Duke university, I heard they have a really good Marine Biology Study there." I said.
"You need a back up plan you know," she said. "Some colleges are really strict."
"You think I don't know that?" I started to gather the fallen papers. "I have a back up plan, but for now I'm just applying to Duke." I confirmed my choice with a snap of my fingers, I thought it a sassy action but I probably looked stupid.
Cara rolled her eyes and did a "whatever" face. She continued looking through the colleges, then she looked up. "Crap!" She yelled. "I forgot that Haydon and I were going to the club tonight. Wanna come?" She asked hopefully.
I pretended to think about it. "No, thanks for the offer though." I said with a sigh.
"Why?" She groaned. "If it's because you don't have a date, it's alright, a lot of people go with just friends or I could get you a guy to-"
"No." I cut her off. "It's fine, I have..er...stuff to do."
"What er stuff do you have to do exactly?" Cara asked suspiciously.
"It's none of your business." I said defensively.
"Okay..." with a roll of her eyes she picked up her bag. "Well, I'll talk to you later then."
"Mmhm." I mumbled. I sat the brochures on the kitchen counter and went to my bedroom. I heard Cara drive away and I plopped down on my bed. I picked up my phone, a crappy flip phone that I got for my 15th birthday, and dialed my mom.
"Hello?" She asked, her voice sounded tired.
"Hey, what time are you coming home?" I asked, hoping soon.
"I work another night shift, but Laina I have to go. I was just called to a patient. Love you."
"Love you more." I sighed, and then I heard her hang up. I tossed my phone on the other side of my bed and stared at my ceiling for a few minutes.
My phone rang, taking me from my daze.
"Hello?" I asked into the phone, not bothering to check the caller ID.
"Hey!" It was Cara. "If your not to busy doing your er stuff, I have a totally hot guy waiting for you! He agreed to come with you as a date to the club!" She squealed.
I groaned. "Cara! I'm busy! And I told you.. I don't- Im not looking for a boyfriend right now. Im trying to get into college, they are to much drama." I clicked the phone closed and sighed. I don't know what she didn't understand! I knew she was just trying to help but I didn't need her help!
My thoughts made me tired, and soon I was asleep, my phone clutched in my hand and using a wadded up shirt as a pillow.
