On the way back to the hospital, Bradie called. "Cal? Why'd you leave?"

"I didn't want to be there anymore. I want to forget about Ben for the time being. Will you not tell the guys about Ben hiring those kids?"

"Okay, I won't. Don't let this stress you out."

"Easier said than done. If Ben's still out to get me, there's no telling when he'll strike next!"

"Cal, we have a warrant out for Ben. And he's still got one in Texas from when he escaped from prison. We're looking to find him as we speak. I have some officers checking the bank statements for the validity of their story. And so far it's checking out. That means we can start actively hunting him down."

"Thanks, Bradie." I smiled into my phone like he could see me.

"No problem. Just call me if you ever need anything from me." Bradie said and hung up.

I sighed quietly and put my phone back in my pocket. "Is everything okay?" The taxi driver asked, looking back at me through the rearview mirror.

"Yeah, just some bad accidents." Well, it wasn't an accident. You know that now. I thought to myself.

"Well, I hope everything's okay."

"Thanks. At least it seems to be slowly sorting itself out." I chuckled to myself and looked out the window.

When I got back to the hospital, I immediately went up to ICU and saw that Cubbie wasn't in the room. I walked to the nurse's station outside ICU and asked where he was. The lady working there said they had moved him up a couple of floors to free up ICU and give him a private room.

I hurried up to the room she told me he was in. "Knock, knock." I said as I walked into the room, the door was slightly ajar and the privacy curtain was drawn.

"Cal?" Cubbie's voice came from the other side of the sheet of fabric.

"The door's open, you want me to close it?"

"Sure." He smiled and nodded.

After I had closed it, I sat in the chair by the bed. "So, you went to the police station?" He questioned before I could say anything.

"Yeah, I went up to talk with Bradie."

Cubbie didn't say anything, he just nodded.

"Hey give me your address." I said suddenly, remembering I needed to go talk to Rebecca and Gemma.

"What? Why?" Cubbie shot back immediately. He was almost offended with my demand.

"I need to go get your wife, moron. I still haven't been to your house and I'd like to go get her because I need to talk with her."

"Oh, right." Cubbie chuckled and held out his hand. "Here, I'll put it in your phone, that way you can get directions."

"Aren't you nice?" I giggled. He just rolled his eyes and took my phone. I sat there quietly as he typed things on the phone.

"Hurry back." He gave me back my phone.

"Already? Are you trying to get rid of me?"

"No, I just want to talk to my wife. I know she wants to talk to me."

"Okay. I'll be back soon, Tough Guy. Don't miss me too much." I stood up and started to walk out.

"Thanks for doing this." Cubbie said right as I was about to walk out of the door.

"Hey, you guys are the closest thing I have to family here, I'd do anything for y'all." I realized what had come out of my mouth after I'd already said it.
