Buzz. Buzz.
I groaned as I slowly opened my eyes. It's gotta be early. The sun isn't at its usual angle. I thought to myself as I could barely keep my eyes open.
Buzz. Buzz.
Who the hell is calling me at this time of day? I frowned and sat up so I could look at my clock. 9:00 AM. "Oh come on!" I practically yelled and fell backwards. Kojack startled from beside me. "Sorry buddy." I reached over and scratched his head. "I swear, if this is Cubbie messing with me again." I muttered and reached for the phone.
"Jacob, I swear to god, if you're calling me to say you want doughnuts but you're too lazy to get them..." I answered the phone, not even bothering to sit up.
"Oh, I'm sorry, this must be the wrong number!" The voice answered back.
"You're not Jacob... I'm sorry! I thought someone was pranking me." I paled and tried to play it off.
"That's quite alright!" The man chuckled from the other end. "Is this Calliegh Martin?"
I felt my heart stop momentarily. Why is someone calling me? I don't give out my number to anyone. "Yes?" I answered cautiously.
"I'm sorry, I should've introduced myself! It's Tyler Reynolds, from the film festival? I was supposed to be helping you with your movie."
"Oh. Oh!" I shot up straight in my bed.
"We're so sorry about the long wait for any kind of information about the deal."
"No, it's fine! I figured you were busy with things or this stuff just takes a long time."
"Yeah, it does. But we were going to call you sooner, but then we saw what happened."
"Yeah... That." I nodded solemnly. "But it's all good now." I smiled a little to myself.
"Right, I saw that! It's been a week since Cubbie woke up, that's good." Tyler replied.
"More than good, honestly." I chuckled. I didn't go back up to the hospital after that day I left when I took Rebecca up there. I only went up to take her home, I didn't go in. A few days later, when Cubbie was released, he came over to my apartment and told me he hated me for the way I left, but forgave me because I was the one who brought his wife over to tell him he was having a second kid.
"So, anyway..." Tyler trailed off like he was thinking of what he was trying to say. "Ah what the hell, we're ready for you to come in and meet with some people."
"Wait, what?" I don't know I was in so much disbelief. "Like, today?"
"Sorry for the late notice. We can do tomorrow, if that works better."
"No! Today's fine! I wasn't going to do anything today anyway!" I was almost jumping up and down.
"Great. Is three o'clock fine?"
"That works! I'll be there!" I smiled into my phone.
"See you then." Tyler replied and hung up.
I threw my phone beside me in bed. This was crazy. I buried my face in a pillow and just screamed. It's happening. It's really happening.
Kojack was obviously scared by my actions. He pounced on me and started trying to stick his nose under my face to try to pull me out of whatever danger I was in. Maybe I should just start taking Kojack with me everywhere if he's this protective of me. If Ben's really back, Kojack would be the perfect bodyguard.
"Holy shit." I muttered to myself, finally realizing what had just happened. "Holy shit!" My eyes widened. "Kojack! Do you know what this means?" I squealed. He just lazily looked up at me. "Whatever." I rolled my eyes and started laughing.
