Its the summer of third grade and I'm in my new house unpacking boxes. As I'm opening a box, my little brother walks in. I'm 9 and my little brother is 3. I am brunette and I have brown eyes. I'm Rachel and me and my family just moved to California. My mom just got a new promotion from her job. She works as a fashion model. So my family is pretty rich.

My little brother is Alex. He is really sweet and nice. I just hope he stays that way when he gets older. In a few weeks I'm going to my new school and I'm kinda scared. Alex is wearing nothing but a diaper. He starts picking his nose and eating his boogers. I chase him out of my room and begin to start unpacking boxes again.

When I find the box with my diary in it, I grab it and start peeling off the tape. Once I find my diary I find a place to hide it. I find a place under my metal bunk bed but above the sheets. I keep a diary to write down my feelings and how my day is going. It might sound childish but I don't write down what we did in class, I write important stuff like, stories I think about during the day. My dreams that can never go away. The drawings that get stuck in my head. My diary isn't just something to write secrets in, my diary is to write my moments and what my life has had in stored for me.

I hear a knock on my door as I put my pillows on my bed.

Rachel: Come in.

My mom walks in with a red rectangular box and hands it to me.

Mom: Here.

I grab the box and open it to see a beautiful charm bracelet with a heart charm, an I love you charm, and a mom charm on it. I start to put it on.

Mom: It's a charm bracelet. It's for you and only you. It's something we can share.

She pulls down her sleeve to show me a bracelet almost identical to mine. The only thing that was different was hers had a daughter charm on it.

Rachel: What's this for.

Mom: It's just for always being so nice and sweet and just being you. Sweety, I'm so proud to have you in my life.

She smiles as she explains. I could see that her smile was turning into a frown. I want to ask her what's wrong but I can tell she doesn't want to talk about it. I give her a hug as she starts to leave. 4 hours later I finish unpacking my things. I open my door and walk into the kitchen to see what's for dinner.

Rachel: Hi mom. What's for dinner.

Mom: Chips and salsa.

Yummy. I think in my head. My mom is a great cook. In my family my mom is the one who is famous and cooks and my dad is the one who works at night.

Rachel: I'm going outside to meet the neighbors.

Mom: Don't forget your cell phone.

I start walking outside to see how my house is so different from the others. As I walk backwards, I hear a bark and yelling behind me. I turn around but it was too late. A small golden dog knocks me off my feet. I fall to the ground. A boy starts running up to me. I thought he was gonna help me up so I wait till he helps me but he doesn't.

He just runs for the dog. A group of other boys about the same age start following him. None of the boys help me. Until this one boy comes. I look up to see the sun blocking the boys face. I can't see who it is but he's nice. He helps me up.

Boy: Are you okay.

I try to see his face but my eyes get blurred by the sun.

Rachel: I'm fine.

Boy: Hey your the new girl.

Rachel: Yea. I'm new. I just moved here from New York.

Boy: Hey, what school are you going to.

Rachel: I'm going to Lincoln Elementary.

Boy: Hey me too. Oh and I'm Alex.

I rub my eyes and my vision is back but as I look to see the boy, he is gone running with his friends to catch the dog.

Alex: I'll see you later at school.

I don't know why but I got this feeling in my body I never had before.

I walk back to my house and everyone is at the table ready to eat. We never eat without everyone there, unless there is a good reason. As I finish my dinner my mom asks me about the neighbors. I start to blush and I don't know why. No one notices that my cheeks turn rosy red.

Rachel: Well nothing really happened. I fell on my butt. A dog tripped me. Then a boy, ran for the dog. He didn't help me up. Then a group of boys, about the same age, followed him about 20 feet away. All of them ran for the dog. Then there was this one boy. He helped me up. I didn't see his face but he was really nice. He said he is going to the same school as me. He even has the same name as Alex. After he helped me up he started running back to his friends that were chasing the dog. He yelled back at me. He said, "I'll see you at school."

As I finished talking, my mom started smiling. I finish my dinner and go to my room and try to sleep. I don't know why but I can't sleep. My mind is on that boy. He is stuck in my head. I just want to go to sleep. Finally things get dark and I drift into a dream.
