He sat up thinking about the upcoming challenges that wait for him. His thoughts were clouded with an emotion of yearning that he had yet to name. Was it sadness, the sadness of not being able to experience and relive the adventures he once experienced? It couldn't be, he had no regrets and felt contempt for what he had done in the past. Could it be wrath, wanting so much to feel that power of battle? No, this didn't seem right either, he felt no anger. None of his battles have ever been for anger. Fear?
A voice interrupted his thoughts "Sir your chocolate milk has arrived." That voice was that of his butler Alfred. "Thank you, Alfred," Said the champion, taking the Pikachu mug filled with the delicious sweet liquid. "Sir it's 3 a.m., may I suggest that you get some sleep. You have a meeting with the Gym leaders at 11 a.m., and a meeting with the Head of the police force at 2 p.m. and-
"Alfred, do you think I'll lose the title this year?" asked the champion.
"Sir you need not worry about losing, you're the strongest trainer in the entire region"
"That's the point, Alfred. Don't get me wrong, I love my job, I love doing things that can benefit this region, I love the cameras, the many things that I get invited to, all of it. But the Fights... They aren't the same. After being undefeated for almost a decade, the life of a champion - The person who's primarily seen for their strength in pokemon battles- gets boring. Alfred, I need a challenger who will make me relive the struggles of my golden days."
Alfred looks at him puzzled. He had no idea that the Champion had ever begun to feel this way. None of his training at the CH school of Butlers had prepared him for dealing with such emotional needs. "Hmmm," Alfred pondered for a moment, then proceeded to pet the Champion's head as if he were a furfrou, "there, there, sir."
"Alfred, I need a rival, not POOCHIE HEADPATS!!!" exclaimed the champion. He stood up from his Mario Kart bed only to fall to his knees due to his legs falling asleep. "Alfred, could you please get me my spinny chair?"
"Of course sir," his butler sighed.
After the spinny chair was retrieved the Champion sat down facing his three 7x5 4k tv screens. After spinning in his chair for some minutes(for that is the way that the champion eases his mind), he began to search up names of previous champions of this region and began to stare at how long they were able to hold their titles. Chester Collins held his for 4 years, Charlotte Kristin held her for 2 years, Christina Mynds for 3, etc. But he had held his title the longest in Ch history at 9 years in counting. If he remains champion for this year he would have officially gone one decade being the Champion. After contemplating for how long he would possibly be undefeated, he began to search up names of some of the strongest trainers on the internet.
Alfred stood back watching the Champion who was in deep thought. He decided that it would be best to give the champion the best suggestions he could so as to help him get over this odd depression. Several names came to mind, but only one really stood out.
"May I suggest this young lad?"
Alfred grabbed the remote and searched up the name of a certain 15-year-old boy from the Kanto region. From there Alfred showed the champion the boy's profile and a small list of the known pokemon that he possesses. To Alfred's relief, the Champion showed some interest in the boy. "What's his main pokemon?" asked the champion, "He looks like a powerful lad so perhaps it is a Blastoise or perhaps even a Dragonite."
"Actually sir," his butler began, "His main is actually a Pikachu."
"A Pikachu? I hear they are quite adorable but their overall power leaves something to be desired."
