If there wasn't such thing as love, would we still feel it? Would we ignore our opposites and just be same half of someone? Or would we start comparing and contrasting; finding who's better for the good or the worst? Would we be actual humans and communicate? All's depending on on how someone interacts with some other being.
As for Miley all in her opinion is to past college. Getting wasted is just pathetic. And not remembering is traumatizing. Jesse, he just wants a girl to be his for once. He didn't care who she is, as long as she loves him back.
But you can't always rely on someone to love you. They can always seem nice, then turn around and stab you in the back. But Jesse was used to the feeling of loneliness.
And when all's well, don't believe it. It can flash before your eyes and disappear just from actually believing you had a chance.
