Platform 9 and 3/4 is quiet when you get there, but soon enough, other students start to arrive and you are once again filled with the excitement and anticipation for the year ahead. Your friends gather around you, first Pansy, then Draco, Daphne and as usual, Blaise is the last to arrive.
You're overcome with joy from seeing your friends again but, you can't help but feel a little dismay, thinking about Sirius and how close you have become and how much you will miss him. Yet it feels as if something was going to change this year.
'Y/N!' Daphne waves her hand in front of your face, noticing that you have become lost in thought.
'It's time to board the train' she says, looping her arm through yours and walking to the edge of the platform.
Pansy, Draco and Blaise all follow along behind and you find a carriage together.
None of them knew your relation to Sirius Black, thinking you were simply left in the care of a guardian after Regulus passed.
You brush off the nervous and sit back to enjoy the journey of reading, chatting and playing card games with your friends. Blaise hums to himself whilst Pansy chews on some fudge flies.
All of a sudden, the train comes to a halt, the warm lights go out and an icy gloom replaces them. For a moment your head goes foggy and a ringing fills your ears but this shortly disappears and the lights come back on. Your friends look around the carriage briefly and then continue chatting like nothing happened.
You sensed that something must have happened, further up the train, so you go to investigate and check that Hermione was ok.
This was an unlikely friendship, and certainly one that Draco disapproved of, but you and Hermione had bonded over struggling to make friends in your first year; particularly as you felt you didn't fit in with the other Slytherins; and your friendship had only continued to grow over the past year.
Eventually you find her carriage but, instead of seeing voluminous locks and a gentle smile, your eyes fall upon toasted honey hair and salt water eyes, that locked with yours, long enough for you to drown in them.
'Sorry my dear..' the man says 'a student has fainted, would you give us a minute'
His voice was buttery and dulcet, like chocolate melting on the tongue.
Despite your usual confidence and quick wit, you seem to be unable to conjure the words 'Yes, of course' and instead, simply nod and walk away.
Soon, the journey comes to an end.
'Did you see the new professor?' Pansy asks as you exit the train and step onto the platform.
'I hear he's meant to be really good-looking.' Daphne adds, frantically buttoning up her coat as she's hit with the cold, Scottish, evening air.
It hits you that the man you saw was a new Hogwarts teacher.
'Well is he?' they question you, excitedly.
The boys sigh and roll their eyes, walking ahead of you.
'I don't know about all that' you murmur, trying to avoid the question. 'Did you hear that Harry passed out on the train?' You ask in an effort to change the subject.
Daphne and Pansy look at me in disbelief and you see Draco smirk out the corner of your eye.
'I suppose something terrible must have happened' Daphne says wrapping my arm tightly around her in a desperate attempt to warm up.
I dawdle along, still in awe of the man I had met on the train.
'Come on!' Daphne shouts, dragging me inside with her.
