Chad and the others took José to the hospital when the professor told José should get the proper handling. Well, it's about time.Mason told his friends to wait outside because he didn't want to make the hospital residents uncomfortable. I'm here with Mason, Simon, and Stephanie in the waiting room. David is outside the room, waiting in front of the emergency room.
One thing that I wouldn't say I like is going to the hospital. That something happened to me or someone I knew. Like when I got shot on my arm, it was a painful week, if I recall. I promise not to go back to the hospital, but now I'm here.
"I'm at the hospital right now," I told Joanne through the phone.
"Why? Is it that bad?" Joanne asks regarding my illness.
"No, it's not for me," I sighed before explaining the reason I'm in the hospital, "do you remember the freshman that overdosed? He was announced missing, but Mason found him, and he's in bad shape right now."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Do you want me to come?" Joanne offered.
"Yes, please, I need my booster," I accepted her offer.
"Alright, hang in there, okay?"
"Okay, bye, Jo," I paid her goodbye before ending the call.
"Was that Joanne?" Stephanie asked me in curiosity.
"Yeah, she's coming here," I replied.
I can't seem to calm myself, not knowing José's condition. I can only hope for the best and hope the doctor will quicken whatever they're doing.
Maybe I shouldn't have made the ridiculous promise. Who am I kidding? I'm not a wealthy person who can hire bodyguards.
"Did you surprised to know Chad is a pre-med student?" Simon suddenly asked me.
I looked to my left side to see if he was kidding. Why is he asking me that question when it's such a wrong time?
Simon spotted my poker face and cleared his throat, "Sorry, I thought it would brighten up the mood."
"I'll tell you something," Stephanie joined from my right side, "I know nothing about Chad, but he looked like the person who would headbutt a bull."
Mason cackled a laugh, "Trust me, headbutting a bull is actually on his bucket list."
I let my friends joke around while contemplating my thoughts. What's taking the doctor so long? It's been two hours, and they're still inside. Was the damage that great? By the looks of it, it is.
I can't let him die. I haven't apologized to him.
Then my prayers were answered when David barged through the glass door, "Great news, the doctor has finished, and José is allowed to be visited," we stood up from our seats in unison. David raises his finger, "on one condition, only one person may enter. Keep in mind that he's emotionally unstable."
"I'll go first," I said, and everyone allowed me.
David walked me to the room. I took a deep breath as I put my palm on the door. I know I don't dare to face José because I broke my promise. I can feel my legs start to limp and cold sweats all over my head. I think David noticed my anxiety as he held me from the side, "Hey, chin up. It's weird to see you weak like this."
"I'm not complaining about your remarks. I am weak at the moment. I lack sleep and eat. Not to mention my assignment is due next week," I said to David.
David patted my back, "Sorry to hear that, but you can't be looking weak in front of José now. Am I right?"
I nodded in understanding. I should not be looking weak in front of José, but I can't get rid of the fact I let him down.
