Darkness, darker than anything I've ever felt before. Even my eldest enemies couldn't have produced anything close to this. Where was I even? It seemed to go on forever behind and infront of me, yet walls were close at my sides. I decided to walk down what I could only assume to be a hallway and still nothing. No light, no air, doesn't even seem to be a ceiling. "Maybe..." I released my wings and flew up hitting a ceiling not too far above me. "Ugh..." At least I now knew it was a room. There had to be an exit either way then! I decided to run at a moderate pace to keep some energy until I hit a wall in front of me.
"So there is an end... someone should have to hear and check on me if I make enough noise." I started to pound on the wall trying to contact anyone, but I wasn't prepared when the wall lit up after a powerful hit. I hit the same spot lighter and nothing happened. I took a breath and hit it again, the same reaction.
"This is gonna hurt," I sighed before walking backwards. When I felt I had enough room, I sprinted towards the wall, flapping my wings for extra speed. Impact. There was a bright light where I hit that slowly dimmed as I fell back onto the floor. I watched it until the light extinguished itself and started to feel hopeless. "At least I have a cool wall to keep me company. Not much use, but will keep me from going insane."
Another bright flash and the entire wall was lit up. I turned behind me to see the back wall finally giving me some depth. "Did someone finally hear me? Maybe the back wall could yield an exit." I sprinted over to the far wall and it was just as formless as the walls around me but had a strange colour pattern. "How could I be in here with no exit?! Someone had to put me inside somewhere!" I scanned the walls and found no door or windows.
After about a minute, the light suddenly changed colours as did the pattern on the back wall. "No notes...?" I wondered as I read the back wall. There was a new cylindrical box that also appeared beside me that stopped not too far from each wall. I touched it and a new wall rose in front of me. I saw some flashing ahead that darkened parts of the wall ahead of me. The wall suddenly fell again and there were now words on the back wall.
Who are you? How are you in there? Are you alive or some kind of machine? Can you even read this? Where did you go?
I paused after reading those words looking back at the bright wall. I was now even more confused. Someone was communicating with me but was even more clueless than I was. There had to be a way to respond. I hesitantly walked forward in front of where that wall was before, then decided to get as close as I could to the glowing wall to make sure I didn't get cut off again.
Before I knew it, the cylindrical box inflected backwards giving rise to the wall again and another one just ahead of me. This one had buttons to press on it that looked like ones you'd find on a keyboard. I pressed one tentatively and the corresponding letter appeared on the wall. I pressed the backspace button and then wrote out a simple,
Hello?
There was nothing for a few moments until the keyboard wall fell again. I stepped over to where the writing wall was and flew up to touch the characters. "Flat," I observed. "It just melded directly with the wall... what kind of technology-". I heard another shift as the keyboard wall came up again. This time the keyboard was flashing on its own, writing another message.
You can respond? What does everything look like to you?
I flew over the wall and to the keyboard again to respond.
How does it look to you? For me it is a long hallway with different boxes and walls appearing from nowhere.
There was nothing again for a while and the keyboard dropped again. "Why did it keep...?" Maybe I was somehow blocking it from them? Could they only interact with what they saw in the bright wall? I stepped out of the way of the wall again to which it rose again behind me.
