The next couple of days, the camp was silent. Half the time Connie would be sitting behind the butcher's table where Sasha once sat, his head down in his hands as he stared at the grass. Both Armin and Jean were quiet, barley talking to you as you did the daily chores in the camp.
It seemed as though Erwin and Levi were planning something. They had been holed up in their tent since Sasha's death.
Everything was so strange.
The timing. How did the Warriors know you'd be leaving your camp just then? You had only just left. You tried to make sense of everything, piecing everything together as you studied everyone. You had already ruled out Armin and Jean as being the traitor.
The only people you didn't know much about were Eren and Mikasa. "You lost in thought there?" You jumped at the loud voice behind you. You turned around to see Jean, towering over you. "Yeah... just thinking." You snapped out of your thoughts and stood up to meet his eyes. "Come on, we're going fishing. I need to get out of this camp." Jean was holding onto two fishing rods, leaning them against his shoulder.
"I'm not much of a fisher, Kirstein." You took one of the rods from his hands and walked behind him as he left the camp. "Neither am I. I just need an excuse to leave this hell hole for a bit." He looked back at the camp as everyone continued their activities.
"I'm sure you've put a lot of thought into everything." You said as you followed Jean down the trail towards the river that ran by camp. "I sure as hell did. I don't trust that fool Eren, Reiner neither." Jean stopped as he came to the shore.
"Reiner?" You asked as you shoved your hand into your pocket and pulled out a bit of cheese for the bait. "Something is just off putting about the feller. He came alone, unlike everyone else." Jean shook his head and he pulled his fishing rod back and flung it out towards the water.
You did the same, the hook landing a long ways away from you. You held on tightly to the rod, slowly reeling it in so the fish would think the cheese was another fish. "I guess that's right." You but your lip as you tried to remember every counter you had with the man.
"I've heard talk of some bug robbery Erwin and a Levi have planned. Some town called Rhodes." Jean looked over at you, his eyes focused on your lips as you continued to bite on them. "Sasha just died and they're already trying to get more money." You let out a sigh and Jean patted your shoulder.
"We've got to continue on. I know it's tough." Jean leaned in, placing a kiss on your cheek. You began to feel the fishing rod tug and your eyes lit up in excitement. "Look, you're a natural." Jean giggled as he dropped his rod and stood behind you. He placed his hands on your hips and lowered himself to place his chin on your shoulder.
You could feel a tingle in your body from feeling his warm breath on your neck. You tried to stay focused as you reeled in the fish, it struggling against your grasp. You watched as the movement got closer to you, and you quickly tugged on the rod, flinging the fish out to the water.
You reeled it in a little bit more and reached out to grab and hold the fish up. It was about a foot long and a greenish color. "Guess we'll be having bass for dinner." Jean whispered as he kissed your neck. You unhooked the fish from the rod and stuffed it in your satchel.
"Come on Cowboy. I wanna see you catch one."The sun was beginning to set as you and Jean hiked up back to camp. The lights from the camp peeked through the trees and you could back of figures walking around.
As you approached the camp, you could see Levi and Erwin, along with Hange, standing in the middle. "Shit." Jean breathed out as he headed over to the butcher's table, dropping the fig in the small bucket. You did the same and then joined Jean as he walked to the leaders.
"Great everyone's here now." Levi said as he glared at you and Jean. "Jean, Y/N, you'll both be joining us in Rhodes." Erwin said as he folded his arms across his chest. "We're really doing this?" Jean sat down at the table and took off his hat.
"Everyone will be going, except for Armin and Hange, they'll be back at the camp." Erwin looked around at everyone as they listened intently. "Listen, I know things have been rough with the loss of Sasha, but I really think this bank robbery will get us enough money to go up north." Erwin was confident as he looked at everyone.
"You better be right Erwin, I don't wanna lose anyone else for some god damn plan you have." Eren walked by the man and disappeared into his tent. Erwin stayed silent as he and Levi turned around, heading into their tents as well.
"Great." You shook your head as Jean stood back up, placing his arm around your shoulder. "We'll need our rest for tomorrow." Jean led you towards the small shack you were staying in.
The big pile of sheets on the floor, making one big bed for the both of you, sat in the corner of the small space. On the opposite wall, was crates with all of Jean's photographs on top and where his hat was laid to rest at night. "Goodnight my darling, we got work to do tomorrow."
