"Liam," I heard calling from upstairs; footsteps were coming down the steps. "Who is that?" The same hazel eyes as Liam said, looking at me.
Liam was a few steps behind me. The boy on the stairs had to be around six or seven years old.
"Bennett, this is Vinessa," Liam said, walking past me and going up to the mid-flight of the stairs. "Do you need a glass of water?" Liam asked, and the two of them seemed familiar with each other.
"No.." Bennett shook his head, his eyes going wide as he looked at me. "Is she the one...?"
Liam shook his head at him. "I was hoping you two could meet tomorrow, but since you are awake now."
"I was reading," Bennett said as a matter of fact.
"Okay then," Liam said, holding his arm out and watching the boy walk down the rest of the stairs to me.
"I"m Bennett," the boy said, taking my hand in his, leading me to the living room. When we reached the living room, he pulled out a manual on a Toyota car of some sort and handed it to me. "Would you mind reading this to me?"
I looked over at Liam; he had been watching me since we walked into the living room.
"It's kind of his thing."
"Um, sure," I said, giving Bennett my full attention. I opened the mundane booklet and started reading some of the words I didn't know how to pronounce but did as best as possible. I was eight pages in when Bennett's hand rested on top of mine. "I believe I am ready for bed. Would you tuck me in?"
"I would love to" We walked the steps, hand in hand; he was one room down from Liam's. Liam followed behind us; he had not said a word once I had started reading to him. The room still looked like his guest bedroom, everything was clean and sleek, and I could tell it was the best makeshift bedroom Liam could come up with.
"Will you be here tomorrow?" Bennett asked after he had gotten into bed.
"Would you prefer that?" I asked the proper American boy in front of me.
"I would prefer that very much."
"Then I'll be here." I smiled down at him.
"Do not feel like you have to leave tonight on my account."
"I'll keep that in mind," I said, winking at him. And even though I had just meant him when he scooted to the middle of the bed and patted the bed next to him I climbed into the bed.
"You smell like vanilla," he said. "Goodnight."
I chuckled. "Goodnight."
