The all to familiar steps of the manor seemed to dissipate under her feet as she ran. The red wooden door loomed menacingly in front of her. Clary knocked twice on the center. The sound of pounding footsteps resounded through the interior. The door opened to reveal a small woman with an angular face and dark brown hair. Her piercing grey eyes studied Clary for a moment before stepping aside to allow her to pass through. As Clary took the opportunity, a wail inside sent both of them running. Alex, Clary's younger brother tromped down the spiral staircase and into the main parlor where the older females met him. In his small hands was a broken figure mangled in ways only death itself could look upon without grimacing. His large eyes, filled with tears looked up at Clary with hope.
"You can fix him... Right CC?" Her brother sniffled.
The mere mention of her brother's beloved nickname for her sent all her composure out of her, and a single tear slid down her pale cheek. Upon seeing her eldest daughter's loss of control, her mother sent Alex to his room with the promise of the toy being fixed."I- I need to tell you something, and you- you won't believe me, you'll send me to a mental hospital and go into depression because you think your daughter is a lunatic. And I'm sorry, mom, I really am, it's just, I need you to understand that sometimes, change is for the better. And- well, this is really cheesy. This whole thing, actually is really cheesy, but you need to hear me out. I'm a -"
But when the delivery line was seconds from being completed, Maureen still staring at her daughter, said in a voice as cold as ice, "Daniel. What do you think you are doing. 'Hanging with the guys!' Right. What's her name."
With this, Clary's almost twin walked back from the door that he tried unsuccessfully to close quietly. Six days apart in age, but years apart in maturity, Danny was Maureen's biological son. Clary, had been a foundling. With her blue eyes and dark, long hair, she almost fit in. But Danny's dirty blonde hair and green eyes made him look like the foundling. Clary had always been a bit on the smaller side, but Danny and any other guy who tried to take advantage of this previously knew better. This girl could pack a punch. Several actually. The nature of her daughter often disturbed Maureen, but she tried not to show it. Instead she begged Clary to take it easy on her brothers and any other poor helpless sap who fell in love and made a wrong move. As you can imagine, these incidents happen quite frequently.
