It had been a couple of hours since my son was born. My son. He looked so much like me for real, aside from having Toya's eyes. I didn't know how it would feel when he came, but now I truly believe in love at first sight. "Congrats my guy." Charles said as he walked over to me and shook my hand.
"Thanks bruh, I appreciate that." I told him. They got here so quick when I told him what was up. That's real shit.
"You're welcome and you know we here. We didn't sign up to be the godparents to not be here. Remember, we got yall." he said and I know he meant it. His word has always been his bond on everything.
"You know I got you too my boy." Jay said as he came through with a box of It's a Boy cigars. "You know how I had to do it." We all laughed at him. "Thanks bro. I appreciate you." I said.
"Naw on the real man, this shit right here is the start of something new. So by all means, enjoy every moment of this here. And if you ever need anything, you got me too. Uncle Jay is here for it." he said and we shook too. "I already know." I told him.
"Like I told your girl, he's so adorable. I wish you guys nothing but the best. I'm happy for yall." Suki said to me.
"Thank you, I appreciate that." I told her.
"You're more than welcome!" she said.
"And then yall know the godmother recorded it and everything." We all laughed at that. Leave it to Iris.
"Doesn't surprise me one bit." Jay said.
"Hey hey now. Yall gone leave my baby alone." Charles said as we all laughed.
"Naw Im glad she did though. Memories. We can always see the moment again to get that euphoric feeling all over again." I said.
"Yeah I can only imagine how you felt in that moment." Jay said and for the first time I had to think if this was actually too much for him considering.
"You okay bruh?" Charles asked him cuz Jay had zoned out for a second. We both knew where his mind went for real.
"Yeah of course." he said quickly.
"It's okay to not be okay Jay. It ain't gone bother me dog. Just like how D stayed until she couldn't. Yall some solid ass friends for even being here considering." I said to him. Suki looked like she just put it all together and started to rub this cat's back to support him in this moment. "It just wasn't meant to be bruh." he said as he snapped out of it. "But on the flipside, my mom says it's good luck to look like your father. So little man is definitely blessed." Jay said. "Man...yeah he is your twin." Charles said agreeing with Jay.
"Okay, because he clearly didn't get much from my girl." Iris said walking over to the rest of us. "Thanks yall. I appreciate all of yall for being here for real. The doctor said this is the most people she ever seen show up for a delivery." I said thinking about it. Everyone from the dinner party, plus the gang. Yeah they showed out for us. Her dad and Elizabeth hung back a little bit because it was so much going on, but everyone was here and that's all that mattered. I mean big ups to D and Jay for hanging in here, I can't say I could've done it, but I'm thankful.
"But I'm sure Toya is exhausted, so we're gonna head out. We'll be back up though." Jay said. As he hugged me before they bounced out. "I think it was too much for real." Iris said and I nodded at that.
"Yeah, it's rough for sure." I said as I glanced over in the crib at my son. "I can't imagine how they feel. I feel even more blessed for not knowing." I said truthfully. That gotta be hard to deal with. We were silent for a moment. "Well we should get going to give yall some bonding time with each other and little handsome over there." Iris said as her and Charles looked at each other and started to get ready to take off.
"If you need anything, just hit my line bruh." he said as he hugged me too.
"Yall be safe out there." I said as they left and I went back over to the bed by Toya. "So how does it feel being a mom?" I asked her as I kissed her cheek.
"It's calming." she said softly and we both laughed a little bit. "I've never felt so much love in one room ever in my life for real. I just want him to always feel that." she said. "He will. No matter what, he has us and we gone always show him more love than we've ever seen our whole lives and that's a lot for real." I told her.
"Thank you for taking this walk with me." she said. I laid down in the hospital bed beside her and looked into her eyes.
"You never have to thank me for doing what I'm supposed to do. I'll be here for you and for him forever. This is just the beginning. It'll definitely get greater later. I promise you that." She smiled at me and I placed a kiss to her cheek. I could tell she was tired as hell, which I never imagined labor being like it was. You have a newfound respect for women after you see them bring forth life. In the sense of carrying, as well as delivering. The actuality of it, is that every woman is close to death when they go into labor. They damn near kill themselves to birth a child. I guess this is why we can never really tell a mom anything about sacrifice. They already lived it for real. This was definitely not how I expected to be ending this day, but it was an even better outcome than I thought. I got a healthy baby boy and what more could I ask for? I got my son, now the next step is graduation. This is gonna be an eventful week for sure.
