Friday had rolled around before I knew it. Not that I hadn't been anticipating it all week. Excitement took over all that I was.
Just before 8 o'clock, I panicked. Calum never told me where we were going! How was I supposed to dress?
It struck me that I was getting way too worked up for a diluted date with a boy, much less one I barely knew a thing about.
He's nice. And he plays bass. A fellow musician is always comforting.
Finally, I dressed myself in a navy blue mid length dress and applied a thin layer of makeup. I opted out on styling my hair, because I appreciated it's natural waves.
The hour hand on the clock in my bedroom ticked past the eight and I began to worry. I sat nervously on the edge of my love seat, anxiously watching the door. Did he ditch me?
After so long, I sighed, rolled onto my back, and accepted the fact that I had been stood up. It had only happened to me once or twice before. Most of the guys I dated were drunk when I met them and drunk on every one of our "dates".
I stood up and made my way to my bedroom to change. My dress was down to my knees when there was a furious pounding on the door.
Shit, I thought, quickly redressing and running to the living room. A toned
silhouette stood in my entrance, panting.Calum, dressed to the nines in a tuxedo and bow tie. His eyes looked me over once, softening his tense posture.
"I-I'm sorry-I'm late," he explained, gasping between words, "My car-broke down-"
I gathered my dress in my hands and started out the door. "We'll walk."
Not sure where that came from. I was starting to sound desperate. My pace slowed when I realised that Calum was a ways behind me.
He caught up and shoved his hands in his pockets. "I never even told you where we are going."
I paused, my cheeks taking on a red hue. "Oh, I thought-" Stuttering, I turned on my heel.
Calum grabbed my shoulder. "No, you went the right way."
"Oh." I chuckled nervously. Calum held his grip on me even as I redirected myself. His fingertips danced across my back until he had his arm around my waist.
I don't mean to sound cliché, but it felt amazing.
A few blocks from my flat, to which we'd walked in silence, Calum turned around a corner onto Main Street. Cars whipped by, but I hadn't a care in the world.
"There's mine," Calum laughed, pointing to the vehicles avoiding his pickup.
"Now we're both car-less. Temporary pedestrians."
"Yeah, I guess."
Silence. It was a blessing. But in a time like this, it was a curse placed upon me. I had a need to break it, though I knew whatever I devised would be a mistake.
"You look cute." Oh my God, Celyn.
Calum raised an eyebrow, understandably.
"I mean not like 'puppy' cute. Like 'handsome' cute, you know? Is that even a thing? I'm sorry, I'm trying to give you a compliment." I shut my mouth, horrified of its expulsions.
He grinned and ran a hand through his hair. "Thank you! You too. I mean, you look pretty, not handsome."
I giggled, relieved that I was on a date with someone who might be just as awkward as I was.
"Oh, we're here," Calum announced, turning toward a glowing, vine covered building.
And not a moment too soon.

Sorry, it's been a long time since an update. This was a filler chapter. Next chapter we get into the nitty gritty. I'm not good with long author's notes, so read, vote, comment.xnoxnamex
