Chapter 22: The Hospital

{Avery's POV}
Once we get to the hospital we all get out the car. Jazzy and Kiki walking into the hospital together.
"May I please hold your hand. Because I'm really scared." I say nervously.
"Of course. Your my daughter. I love you baby girl." My dad says and smiles at me. Then he takes my hand and we walk into the hospital not knowing what to expect. Once what we get in Dad goes up to the desk to find what room she is in.
"Mrs. Taylor is on level 5 room 514." The desk lady says. We nod and go to the elevators. I press the button. And we wait for the elevator. Then an elevator comes. We all pile in and go to level 5. No words. But there are tears in everyone's eyes. I know.
Then we go to room 514. Before I even get to see her face I see wires and everything everywhere. A nurse is inside.
"Hello guys I'm the nurse." The nurse says sounding mean.
Jazzy takes a look at our mom but pauses.
"This is not my mom." She says.
"Who is your mom the nurse says."
"Mrs. Elena Taylor." Jazzy says.
"She's in room 515." The nurse says.
"Thanks." Jazzy says. Then we all rush into the next room.
"Where's mom?" I ask.
There's no one but a nurse inside. Once I ask the question the nurse turns around.
"Oh hello, I am Nurse Callie." The nurse says.
"Are you looking for Elena Taylor?" Callie says.
We all nod.
"Oh she is in the X-Ray room." Callie starts.
"The doctor, Doc. Lolé, suspected that she had a few broken bones so she was taken to do an X-Ray. We do not know exactly what happened because she was brought to the hospital unconscious. All we know is that a bus was smashed into the side of her car. She should be back shortly. If you guys would like to get any snacks, you can just go into the elevator and press the "C" button. It will take you to the Cafeteria. And do not worry, she is in good hands and is also the only one who survived the car crash with the least damage." Nurse Callie says politely.
We all sit down in the chairs. I sit next to Kiki and Jazzy. We all comfort each other. Then Callie walks out.
-//15 minutes later//-
I see my mom being wheeled in by a wheel chair. We all get up.
I am the first one to hug her.
"Mom! I love you so much. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me." I say with tears streaming down my face.
"I love you too." She says weakly. Then we all hug her at one time. After that Nurse Callie helps her onto the bed.
"I will be right back with the results." Callie says.
"Thanks." My dad says. Callie nods and heads back out.
"Mom are you ok. What happened?" Jazzy asks.
Kiki is in tears and cannot say a thing so I am comforting her.
{Kiki's POV}
I am in tears with my head in between my knees. No words can make it out my mouth. I am just shocked. Avery is comforting me. And especially because she just moved in not too long ago, this is a lot for her to take in.
"Mom are you okay. What happened?" Jazzy says.
"Well I was.......I was. Wait let me see if I can remember. Wait who are you guys again and why am I here?" Mom says.
I get up from my spot and walk over to my mother.
"Mom. Do you remember me? I'm your daughter, Kiki." I say.
"Umm... not quite. I don't remember having children." Mom says.
Great. Just great. First the accident. Then my own mother doesn't even remember me! What's next.
UGHHH. I throw my hands up in frustration and walk out. How could my mom not remember me? She just said she loves all of us. We even hugged her five minutes ago!
I go into the elevator and press the "C" button. Right now I need to get away from everything that's happening right now. I go into the bathroom and look in the mirror. Wow. I can't believe I didn't notice I was crying. I try to wipe my eyes but tears just come down even faster.
Then I go into the cafeteria and sit down in an empty chair. I just sit there (sideways) and cry.
{Avery's POV}
Kiki gets up from her spot and I let my arms fall from around her. Then she goes over to mom.
"Mom. Do you remember me? I'm your daughter, Kiki.
"Umm...not quite. I don't remember having children." Mom says.
After she says that Kiki has a long pause. And being her best friend I know what's about to happen. She throws her arms up in frustration, screams, and storms out the room.
"Oh. She's a feisty one." Mom says.
Then I get up. I look straight into her eyes. Something happens between us. It's like.........it's like we now have a special connection. I've never felt this close to her.
"Mom. I'm your adopted daughter. I'm Avery. Avery Leah Jones. You adopted me two days ago. Along with my sister Jazzy." I say calmly.
She nods and smiles like she understands me. Which I think she does. She motions for me to give her a hug and I do. I smile at her and leave. Then I go to the elevator and push the "C" button. I know she'd be here. Once I get to the floor I scan the room for her. Then I see her in a chair. I walk over.
"Hay." I say.
"How'd you know I was here?" Kiki says.
"I'm your best friend." I say. I move her legs from a cross the chair and sit down next to her. I sling my hand across her neck.
"What's going on sista? Speak to Aunty Avery now!" I say in a Jamaican accent trying to cheer her up.
"It's just that a lot has been going on. With you and Jazzy moving in, your parents. Now this. How are you not upset about mom?" Kiki asks.
"I am." I say.
"Well you don't seem to be showing it." Kiki says.
"I don't know how I do that. You know how I am a naturally happy person. But I guess you just have to look at the good things. Look mom could have been badly hurt. But she's not." I say.
"You know what the best thing is about you moving in?" Kiki says.
"What?" I say.
"I always have someone to talk to and make me feel better." Kiki says. We both smile at each other.
*Ding*
My phone rings.
I check my phone. It's a text from Jazzy.
Jazzy-Hey, you guys come back up. We have great news!
I reply back to her:
Avery-On our way up!
"Let's go!" I say and pull Kiki into the elevator.
We rush to level 5 and go straight to the room.
"We're here!" I say.
"Hello girls. Well I got all the test results from Dr. Lolè. The results say that she only has a fractured left wrist and her left foot has a shattered bone. And the rest are just minor cuts from the glass. Also, depending on how she is feeling, with her back, she may have to go to physical therapy. The cause of the back pain she may feel might be from the impact of when the bus smashed into her car. But she looks like she is going to recover fully!" Callie says.
Kiki and I hug to that. It's wonderful news.
"When can we take Elena home?" Dad asks.
"We are not to sure yet. Dr. Lolè says that he would like to keep her in here for a couple of days. Just to treat the shattered bone and the fractured wrist. Then she may have to go to therapy depending on how she feels. But I assure you she will definitely have a full recovery." Callie says.
"Well she will need some rest because it is 2:30 in the morning. But you guys are welcome to come back tomorrow."
Callie adds.
We all give mom one last hug.
"Thanks for everything Nurse Callie." Dad says.
Callie nods and we're on our way.
-//Car Ride Home//-
Once we get inside everyone goes straight to bed. Again I don't change. I plug my phone in the charger and put my Mac back on my desk.
-//10 minutes later//-
{Barry's (dad) POV}
All the girls go up to bed but I stay down for a bit. I just go through the mail that was from yesterday on the counter. And what I see shocks me. How am I gonna tell the girls and Elena. I try to clear my mind so I kiss all my girls good night. And when I get to Avery I say,
"I love you baby girl. Welcome home."
She mumbles something but I think it's an I love you back. After that I change and go off to bed. But this time....alone.
