"I know I said we have the whole time in the world, Mafuyu, but..."
"He knows, Kaji-san," Uenoyama cut in, eyes on the tall, blonde male behind the drums. It wasn't hard to notice the tension in his voice. He was just as worried as the other two members of the band, but unlike the last time, he wasn't going to put pressure on Mafuyu again. Even if that would lead to another instrumental concert.
A pair of caramel eyes looked up from the music sheets, making the other males swift uncomfortably. Mafuyu's presence in the room could go unnoticed, he rarely was the main subject in a conversation, and when that happened, you didn't really know what to expect from him. This time he gave the impression of staring blankly, making Haruki elbow Akihiko before dragging him out of the studio.
"I think we need a break," he said. "Akihiko and I will have a smoke."
"But Haru-"
"See ya in ten," the man smiled, pushing the other in front of him. The door closed with a small 'clank' behind them.
Uenoyama let out a short, silent sigh. Their next concert was supposed to be better. They wanted to let everyone know that they made progresses since the last time they appeared on stage, that's mostly why they asked Mafuyu to write new lyrics for their songs. But there were only three days left, and the redhead was as quiet as always.
Not only Uenoyama, but Haruki and Akihiko were both frustrated by the silence. After two live concerts, you'd think Mafuyu would already be used to the pressure of being responsible for the show. Yet he was there, pinching random chords on his guitar, trying to follow the rhythm of the song, humming along, with no words coming out of his mouth. Some icy-blue eyes narrowed in his direction.
"Mafuyu."
Even under a cold look, the caramel seemed to melt. A small smile made the corners of his mouth rise.
"I know what you want to say, Uenoyama-kun. I will have them done in time. I'm just...a little stuck."
Stuck?
Uenoyama frowned, putting his guitar away before he would sit down beside Mafuyu, taking a look at the sheets. There were indeed some words scribbled on them. But it was Mafuyu's phone the one who caught his attention.
"Are you writing your lyrics in notes?"
The boy followed his boyfriend's gaze, answering with a nod.
"So I can write without putting down the guitar."
Putting it that way, it made sense.
Uenoyama moved closer, their knees touching as he leaned towards the phone to read. He didn't notice the slight blush filling the other boy's cheeks. He hummed, scratching the back of his neck.
"I see," he looked up, only to meet doe eyes staring back at him. He ignored the cold chills crawling on his back. "You're missing something. That's why you're stuck."
The boy tilted his head, reaching for the phone. "Missing?" He asked. Uenoyama nodded, his knee pressing into Mafuyu's thigh.
"Your inspiration," he said. "It was that day, huh? The ocean."
The sparkle in Mafuyu's eyes was enough for Uenoyama to know he got it right.
The touch of a cold hand never felt warmer, he wrote. I felt the ocean watching me from behind, even if it was in front of me.
It was the new start I didn't think I deserve.
Uenoyama remembered the day when Mafuyu brought him to see the ocean together.
Right before they would officially confess their feelings for each other.
He rememebered how cold it was and how warm was Mafuyu's touch when he held his hand.
He remembered watching Mafuyu instead of admiring the ocean.
He knew that for him, that day was more than just finding a new love.
It was Mafuyu's way of finishing the sad chapter he started long time ago, but was never able to move on from it.
And Uenoyama knew that this was the song he wanted to write this time.
He just needed... "A feeling."
Mafuyu looked up again, a slight rise on his brows.
"Huh?"
It took less than expected for him to notice Uenoyama leaning towards him – still, he only got to move away the guitar before he'd find himself cornered, a small, mischivous smirk dancing on the others' lips.
"That's what you're missing, Satou," he said, like a mutter. Their faces were so close, he could feel the warm air blown by the other on his cheek. "Your inspiration comes from real moments, right?"
"W-well...yes," he stuttered quietly, unsure on where his boyfriend was trying to get with that. Uenoyama's smile grew wider as he leaned in more, cupping the back of Mafuyu's neck.
"Let's give you a real moment, then."
"Uenoyama-kun," he tried, but the boy's lips were only milimeters away from his. He could see the ocean eyes taking him in with every line they were crossing, initiating something like that at the studio.
He stopped watching, tilting his head back before he'd get his moment, the feeling growing inside him and flickering like a flame. It wasn't the first time he kissed Uenoyama. Yet, being alone in the studio, just the two of them, it felt like they were doing something forbidden. Which made it even more exciting. But the hands pulling him closer let go so fast when the door opened, leaving behind the ghost of an unfinished kiss haunting his lips as Uenoyama stumbled back to retake his position.
None of them said anything about it then.
But all of them were going to sing this moment three days from now.
