TW: KIDNAPPING
***
The sun rises. After talking with Detective Ross and being treated by Chad, we went back to the dorms, and just in case, we stayed at Simon's room. Thank god this campus doesn't do roommates.
"Are we doing this? Are you going to go to that place?" Simon asked.
"Yes, Simon," I replied.
I've been waiting for these moments. I've never thought I would reach this moment. But, what's going to happen after the cops catch them? I had been thinking of Jayden's words last night. They can hire someone to kill me, just like how Jayden ordered to beat Simon and me.
We waited for Detective Ross's, and he finally ringed Stephanie's phone, "hey kids, great news. We got a warrant. But, bad news. We just checked David's room, and he's not there. We searched the perimeters and asked everyone, and he's nowhere to be found."
"Fuck..." I cursed under my breath.
"Meet me at the entrance of the campus. We're going there now," Detective Ross informed and ended the call.
"Are we seriously doing this?" I asked Stephanie while we were preparing.
Stephanie sighed before answering, "yes, and we can't go back."
I went to Joanne and kissed her lips, "Stay here, alright? You'll be safe with Simon."
"I can't come with you?"
"No, I already dragged you into this messed, and I don't want anything to happen to you," I told Joanne, and I looked to Simon, "take care of her, alright? and take care of yourself too."
He nods, "Don't worry."
I left the dormitory and went to the entrance. I saw four cop cars lining up and Detective Ross leaning on his car, "There you are, come on. We don't have much time," he gestured to us inside the vehicle, and when we entered his car. We stay driving away from the campus.
On the road, I feel nervous. I start to breathe faster, and living itself feels like a task. My leg starts to shake, and I keep touching the back of my ears. So many thoughts are flying in my mind. Are we going to find David there? I wonder where he is? Why did he disappear? I don't want to believe someone like David would do this, and I can't imagine how Stephanie feels about this.
I don't want to believe that he's related to the capo. Instead of staying put and explaining to us that it was just a misunderstanding, he disappeared. Why David? Please prove us wrong.
"You're doing it," Stephanie holds my thigh.
"Doing what?" I asked her back.
"Shaking your legs, touching the back of your ears. You always do this when you're on edge," Stephanie responded.
"Sorry, I'm- You know, I always imagine this day to come but not this early," I look over Stephanie, and I know she's not buying it, "Fine. I'm scared, okay? Fucking Jayden beat the living daylights out of me, and I'm here inside a cop car going to his boss's place?"
"Crazy, huh? I never thought this day would come. I still remember persuading you to interview you about your addiction," Stephanie utter.
"You keep texting me like a lunatic," I added.
"Well, that's what you get for not answering me," Stephanie chuckled, "but, thanks. For helping me and agreeing to be my partner."
I plastered a smile. I grabbed Stephanie by the shoulders, "I can't let you do this dangerous investigation alone."
