The books and manuscripts did not manage to keep Felix's attention for very long and on the very same evening as his impromptu talk with the maid, he had already ventured out to the inner gardens of the castle for a breath of fresh air and, well, to contemplate his next course of action.
The young omega was seated on a stone bench that had been covered with soft sitting-furs as not to let the dreary cold seep into his bones. Ornamental outlines of bushy plants and trimmed hedges surrounded him on all sides, hiding him away inside a huge garden maze. The leaves rustled in the wind and the beads of condensation that littered the plants sparkled faintly under the pale moonlight. The night was calm, healing even, despite Felix's troubled heart.
Felix blinked, gaze wandering over the murky vegetation laid out before him as he sighed deeply, his breaths dispersing right into the foggy air around him. He wanted to visit the northern campsite quite badly, fingers itching to go on an exploration. They rarely had any visitors from such remote parts of the world and Felix was eager to learn more about the northern culture, especially now that they might have an omega amongst them. Just imaging talking with the other, exchanging experiences from one peer to another, made Felix's whole body buzz with unhinged curiosity. Not to mention that northern alpha that he had run into... Felix yearned to see him again, despite the eerie feeling coiling in his lower belly. There was definitely something in the air that made Felix all jittery and unsettled, a fateful sort of storm brewing on the horizon that begged him to do something, to act, because he might never get a chance like this again.
A light breeze picked up, tousling his bangs and combing through his hair with cold, ghostly fingers. Felix pulled his quilted jacket tighter around his upper body, shivering from the icy tickle of wind prickling against his skin. Another gust of wind swept over him and with it Felix's senses were suddenly flooded with the smoky scent of bonfire, a warm current within the chilly air, jolting the omega out of his brooding thoughts.
Perplexed, Felix swiveled around in his seat and was stunned to find the foreign alpha, the one with the fiery hair, standing before him. Felix completely blanked out when fanfares blared out loud inside his head at the staggering sight, completely forgetting to hide his unveiled face as the customs required. It was almost as if the alpha had stepped straight out from Felix's daydreams and into his reality, crashing his half-formed plans of sneaking out to the northern campsite by coming directly to him instead. Felix's jaw slackened in awe.
The other male looked just as stunned to see Felix, freezing up mid-motion on the gravel-laden path that zigzagged its way throughout the unfurling garden behind him. The alpha's wide chest heaved laboriously, almost as if he had sprinted all the way through the maze to find Felix – which he had. Chan had recklessly followed his instincts when he caught a trail of the now familiar scent while passing by a drafty balcony back inside the castle. In the blink on an eye he had already abandoned the company that he was with, bolting down the rickety, winding staircase that led to the garden, on the hunt for the intoxicating, heady scent of vanilla that he had not been able to get out of his head.
And he had been blessed.
The sight of his omega was like a divine vision.
The young man was sitting under a pale sliver of moonlight. No veil this time to hide his unique features. His skin was smooth and creamy with a healthy, golden glow. The icy wind ruffled through his dusty blonde hair, tousling his silky bangs this and that way around his youthful face. The curled tips of his hair brushed against the back of his neck when he turned around to stare at Chan with these big, expressive eyes and parted, pink lips. The omega was wearing a lace tunic beneath a quilted, buckled up jacket that fit snugly on his lithe frame, drawn in at the trim, tiny waist. Soft leather skins hugged his slim legs and a pair of ankle boots graced his feet. He was elegant. And definitely the best thing that Chan has ever laid his eyes upon during the twenty-five long winters of his life.
