"You can't go around sweet talking omegas here. It doesn't look good. What were you thinking? He didn't even have a veil on," Jisung said accusingly, narrowing his round eyes at Chan.

The red haired alpha was sitting cross-legged on the pelt-covered floor, mirroring Jisung's own position. A sword lay discarded on the floor by his side. He was dressed once again in dark leather from head to toe, a gray fur cloak covering his back. Chan's wide shoulders were slightly hunched, wiry hands resting on the low, intricate wooden table between them, blunt fingers tapping restlessly against it now and then. There was a steaming cup of tea in front of him but it had been left untouched.

They were in one of the grand tents at their campsite, having returned to the northern camp early in the morning, deciding to relocate for the day and spend some time with their own people before heading back to the castle in the afternoon for another round of tiresome, posturing negotiations.

A sigh left Chan's lips, he was not especially looking forward to that.

The southern head Alpha was reasonable enough, if not too stubborn. It was however his sons, the two alpha brothers that were slowly grating on his patience. The shorter one had this loud, obnoxious attitude that made Chan's wolf rage inside of him while the other one had a forked tongue, all of his words a double-edged sword that had to be watched out for at any given moment. Coming back to the northern campsite felt undoubtedly like a breath of fresh air, grounding Chan and calming his restless wolf.

"And-" Jisung's loud voice broke through Chan's thoughts. "I'm still waiting for that explanation."

Jisung crossed his arms, the coarse, dark fabric of his shirt strained around his biceps. The beta gave Chan a pointed stare then, golden bangs flopping over his forehead as he tilted his head upwards, his chin jutting out stubbornly.

"What were the two of you doing, huh? I hope you weren't recognized. If some weird rumor gets back to the southern Alpha, or his sons, then I'm not sure we'll be welcome here anymore. It might even start a feud. What about your position then? You'll be annexed before you even get a chance to rule the clan."

"Hah..." Chan's gaze fluttered around the room sheepishly as a square grin, almost a wince, stretched across his chiseled face, flashing a set of white teeth. He had been so dead set on finding Felix that he had not even considered the implication of their brief interaction. The omega seemed reasonable enough, surely he would not tattle mindlessly? "You're clearly overthinking this, Hannie. It was just some innocent small talk. It's not enough to challenge my authority back home."

"Oh, am I?" The beta sighed loudly, cheeks puffing out. His stiff posture slacked somewhat when he petulantly uncrossed his arms and fiddled with a serving dish full of powder-coated jelly sweets on the table between them. "You know, your late father made me swear to keep an eye on you. Are you really going to make me break that promise?"

Jisung's hard expression melted quickly into a pitiful one as he blinked wide-eyed at his Alpha, close to pouting. His glossy, brown eyes glittered innocently in the hazy light, like those of a newborn deer.

The howling wind outside suddenly rattled the whole tent structure, making it move like tidal waves in the poignant silence that stretched between them. The oil lamps swayed dangerously overhead in their fastenings in the thick bearing poles, causing strange shadows and distorted silhouettes to dance against the taut, fabric walls of the makeshift room as the yellow light flickered about. Both Chan and Jisung stayed however unperturbed, used to much worse weather conditions in the highlands.

Chan rubbed at his neck then, messing up the short, orange hairs at the back of his head. A smooth leather band glimmered around his wrist, identical to the one on his other arm.
