What if one day, you wake up in a room with no memories to recall and without any sense of familiarity?
What if you got up and looked around for clues, only to find your own picture frames on top of the dresser and it dawned on you that this room is supposed to be yours, but you don't remember it?
A knock on the door snatched me from my confusing loud thoughts. I was so close to panicking that knowing someone's here with me made me calm down a little bit.
"Who's there?" I dared ask to whoever's on the other side of the door.
"It's me, Lucio. 'Breakfast's ready. Would you care to join me?" a baritone voice answered.
Lucio? Breakfast?
I started contemplating if I should trust him or not. His name doesn't ring a bell and I don't even know myself. "Lucio? Who am I then?" I asked while placing my hand on the doorknob, having second thoughts on opening it.
"Your name is Odessa. You can come out if you want and I'll answer your questions over breakfast," his muffled voice replied.
A loud rumble of my stomach stopped me short and made me forget my doubts for the moment. I decided to slowly open the door.
"Good morning," a tall and lean man with a friendly face greeted me as I step out of the door. "Are you hungry? Come on! Let's go eat."
I nodded shyly and let him lead me through the house. I looked around at what seemed like a clean and cozy home. The floor is wooden, and the walls are painted in cream color. The bright sun shines through a window revealing a river in the distance.
Ah! So that's where the faint sound of rushing water comes from.
"So... where are we?" I curiously asked as we entered a what can only be a kitchen with a wooden table in the middle of the room. My eyes got caught in the food on top of it.
"Let's sit down," he said and pulled a chair for me, not minding my question.
"Thank you," I breathed as I sat down. He poured me a cup of steaming coffee and I gratefully wrapped my fingers around it.
"So—"
"Not yet," he cut me off. "Please eat first, then, we'll talk."
"But—" My stomach growled again so I bit off my protest and started eating.
I finished eating first because I'm too eager to ask him many things so I have to wait for him to finish. And when he did, the words started stumbling out of my mouth. He listened to me like he expected all of this. I also noticed that his eyes never left mine and he's wearing an expression I can't recognize.
"First things first," he finally said when I finished shooting him with questions. "Your full name is Odessa Reyes and you have an amnesia caused by trauma in your head after hitting the pavement. And you're here back in your own house."
"Amnesia? That explains it," I muttered to myself. "But who are you exactly? And why are you here in my house?"
"I'm your... friend. Since you live alone, and you are an... orphan—" his voice dropped. "— I'm here to make sure you're eating and you're doing well," he added hastily.
I tried remembering anything from what he's saying but nothing came up. "Orphan? I-what?" I gasped as a sudden sharp pain attacked my head.
Lucio stood up in alarm. "Odessa? Are you okay?"
