Chapter 10 - You'll Be Okay, I Promise

I woke up to the smell of bacon and eggs in the air.

I slowly got up and covered my eyes as a splash of sunlight beamed through the room. I yawned and stretched out my hands, slowly rolling out of bed in the process. I walked out of the room and into the kitchen where Jace was cooking something on the stove.

I sat down at an empty chair near the table and crossed my legs while knotting my hair in a loose ponytail. Jace turned and gave me a small smile as he began to put the food at the table. As he made his way back, he grabbed some black mugs and filled them up with coffee and placed one next to me.

"Thank you." I told him as he took a seat across from me.

We sat in awkward silence for a while before Jace told me to dig in.

I struck my fork into a piece of scrambled egg and chewed it vigorously with my toast.

"It's good" I commented as I went in for another bite.

"Thanks, but it's just eggs and toast. Anyone can make it." he replied as he took a sip from his mug.

"Yeah but, it's still good. I don't usually eat breakfast food."

"I'm a secretary at this publishing company. It's a great job, but I think I'm going to take a break once I get home." I said as Iooked down at my plate.

"And just what are you planning to do on your break?" Jace asked.

"Nothing much. I think I'm going to travel for a bit, get some fresh air. Maybe just live a little."

Jace just laughed as he chomped on his toast. He eyed me a sarcastic look that latched out a sly grin.

"Is this your way of trying to escape your problems. You know it won't work out. Yeah sure you go away for some time and you think you're some sort of new person, but it doesn't work out like that. Once you get back, all the memories will come flooding in, and you're back to square one. It's a total lie when people say 'time heals all wounds'. What you really need to do is face your problem head on. Don't just leave it hanging. Trust me, you're going to regret the day you never finished it off with that person."

Jace poured in some more coffee into his mug and I pressed my back against the chair, thinking. I replayed Jace's words over and over again. Everything he said was right, I should face my problems head on and solve them while there still fresh, but that last line he said about finishing it off...
