"Really? Do you like him for real?" Sadie asks me. I nodded quickly grinning shyly. Sadie squealed again while Galeigh says, "Awee we're pretty sure he likes you back. He didn't object when you sat with us at lunch." Her tone matter factly.
"Wow you guys are actually nice. I kind of thought you guys might just want to use me because I'm 'smart'." I voiced my worry. They both glanced at me with shocked expressions. "We would never. Here's the thing...we've been wanting to talk to you since school started but we didn't know how to approach you." Galeigh said quietly.
Omg they actually wanted to be friends with me.
"Really?" I asked. Galeigh grinned while Sadie nodded her head quickly.
"Well even Caden have been wanting to talk to you. But he's really quiet." Galeigh says.
"Hey Galeigh. Why don't people approach y'all?" voicing the question I've been wanting to know since last night.
Sadie answered this time, "People find us threatening because we like to fight and apparently they're scared we're gonna punch them if they come up to us."
That makes sense. "So does Caden street fight?" I questioned. I was really curious about this. Maybe that's where he gets his muscles from.
"Yeah but-" Sadie was cut off by Mr. Hanes who was asking her a question. She looked at him then to the board then at us confused. I quickly glanced to the board, "Polynomial." I mouthed to her as Galiegh shrugged.
"Thank you but could you girls pay attention now. I would hate to give you attention especially you Mayla." Mr. Hanes said with a threat in his voice.
I blushed and turn my attention to the board, Galeigh and Sadie following. Mr. Hanes went back to teaching.
God. This is so boring. I already know most of it.
So Caden is a street fighter.
I couldn't help but think about his bright green eyes and shaggy brown hair. I started squealing inwardly.
Five more minutes and class will end. Mr. Hanes started collecting our homework from yesterday while handing out the homework for tonight. "Guys it's just polynomials! They aren't difficult." He told us.
I quickly finished my homework just as the bell rang signaling the end of class. I stood up and packed up my stuff quietly. I had study hall so I wasn't in a rush. "See you guys." I told the girls quietly.
"Wait! Aren't you coming with us? Come on!" Sadie said grabbing my arm. She pulled me out the door with Galeigh following us. We walked down the hall and towards the football field.
The sun slightly glared down on us as we treaded across the field. I could see the guys sitting on the bleachers and I flushed in excitement. I kept my stare on my shoes as we made our way towards them.
"Hey guys!" Sadie said as we reached them. She kissed Alex and sat next to him. "Babe!" Galeigh squealed rushing towards Jace. He picked her up and swung her around. I giggled at the sight of it. Awee!
I sat down on the bleachers a of couple feet away from Caden. I glanced at him to see him sliding down to where I am. I blushed as he reached me. "Hey." He said as he bumped my shoulder.
"Hi." I said shyly. He smiled at me, his dimples becoming more prominent. The quietness surrounded us like a fog. I cleared my throat softly before asking, "So Sadie says you fight?" My eyes going to the ground.
I could feel his gaze on me as he answered with a nod. "Cool." I said awkwardly. This is awkward.
Galeigh must of have noticed because she starting going on about how he is a great fighter. I looked towards him in admiration to find him with a slight blush on his cheeks. "Wow. You sound pretty great!" I tell him.
"Nah. I'm alright." He replies back. Alex snorts, "Yeah right. The guy is bloody brilliant." He said in a British accent. I look at him in shock. He's British?! Why haven't I noticed before?
"You're British?" I asked, my tone surprised. Everyone snorts in amusement.
"Yeah? What did you think I was?" He asks. I shrugged in response. "Oh sometimes I hide it." He replies blankly.
I stare at him for a moment before looking away. Blonde hair, blue eyes, and muscular. But Caden's cuter. Sadie noticed my stare on her boyfriend, "You know you guys could pass for siblings!" She says brightly. Maybe.
Everyone nods in agreement. "Hey we're going to Jace's house later. Wanna come?" Galeigh asks me. Yay they're inviting me places! I quickly nod at her question. She smiles at me and gives me the address.
The bell rings in the distance and we start to stand up. Caden's been silent this whole time. He really is quiet. We grab our stuff and starts walking towards the building. But the group makes a left turn instead of right. I stop and stare at them questioning where they're going.
"Sorry. We're skipping but we'll see you later! Come to the house around 4pm yeah?" Sadie tells me. I nod and wave bye to them walking in the opposite direction.
"Bye Mayla!" Sadie and Galeigh shouts as I'm almost in the building. I giggle and turn to wave again. Maybe this school year will be fun I think to myself.
I made it to my Chem class just in time as the bell rang, taking a seat in the middle. A substitute comes in and starts to pass out worksheets. No learning today for us. I quickly finish my worksheets and start to think about the group.
I can't wait for later.
