My heart bashed against my chest as I just barely swerved out the way of a speeding truck. My board wobbled beneath my feet and I leaned down to keep it stable. The rushing wind fought against me and I could barely keep my eyes open. Damn, just how fast am I going!? If I crash I don't even have a helmet! I gotta find a way to escalate!
I squinted my eyes and looked ahead, the park was coming up on my right. There was a bike trail there! Perfect! Now, I just need to ollie onto the curb. Never ollied on my longboard before, but it’s not like I got much of a choice. I swerved around the corner and a car I just cut in front of honked at me. Thankfully they didn't feel like hitting me and I could prepare myself. Alright! Three! Two! O-
Suddenly the tip of my board crashed into the curb and I went soaring like a bird. I guarded myself and crashed into the pavement. The ground tore into my skin and I bounced off the ground like a soccer ball. I tried to stop myself from rolling, but eventually the side of a bench did it for me. It was like a hammer smashed into the base of my back and the wind was ripped from my lungs. I coughed and desperately gasped for air. When I could finally breathe again I rolled off the bench and went face first into the ground. The goal was to push myself up, but that definitely wasn't happening. Maybe I could just take a nap… No, I can't afford to relax, they'll get me if I do.
"Umm hello, are you okay?"
I jumped at the sweet tender voice of a girl. I rolled over and my heart started to race. A girl with chocolate skin was just a few inches from me. My eyes got lost in the forest that were her eyes. It had been awhile since someone looked at me like this, like I was just another person. Her eyes scanned over me still, like she was searching for something. Come on Kite, say something cool. Like, 'That was totally nothing.' or 'Your beautiful eyes are what distracted me.' I sat up more and a wave of pain shot through me.
"Ah damn my butt hurts!"
The words left before I could even think. My heart raced again and I wanted to just die. However, instead of a mischievous smile, a laugh, or even a disgusted look. Horror was riddled all over her face. I see, she figured out who I was. She took a few steps back and started playing with her fingers.
"I ummm, I-"
"Wait please, I'm not-"
Before I could finish, she ran off down the street. Not looking back once. A cold rush filled my body and I looked down to my arm. Honestly, what was I thinking? This is what I deserve after all, right?
"Hey yo! There he is!"
My heart practically leaped into my throat. No way! They caught up to me already!?I turned around, and just down the road I saw the three guys coming my way. However, that wasn’t the only thing that made my blood run cold. I noticed the front end of my ride was smashed to bits against the sidewalk. Crap, I don’t even have enough time to get the pieces…
I forced myself up and took one last look at my board. Then, I turned back around and darted toward the town. Think Kite, think! What am I supposed to do!? Where do I go!? If I run home to my hotel they're gonna know where I live. I glanced around at the people casually walking about and each time I made eye contact, they just looked away. I definitely can’t expect to ask for help. I turned the corner down the road and just at the end of the street, I found it. The Deveontes haunted hotel! I can lose them there! I pushed myself as hard as I could toward it, and skidded to a stop as I made it to the building. The castle-like hotel towered over me like I was a squirrel to a tree. The broken and boarded up windows seemed to glare at me and I hesitated to go forward. I promised myself the last time I was in here was gonna be the last time. I turned back and could see the three guys catching up. Well, a ghost is better than real people I guess. I ran over to the side of the building and leaped through the window. The floor cried underneath my feet and I ran over to the big staircase in the middle of the room. I hurried over to it and hesitated by the stairs. Let's see if they're scooby do this and split up. If they come in together, I definitely can get away.
