"I can't believe you killed him." I slipped my hand into his as we sat beneath the cover of a shop's awning. Earlier, escaping from guards, he had pierced a knife into one of them. I mean Cole had killed people before, but this was new. He didn't even know this man and the guard didn't owe us anything.
He grimaced and pulled away. "He would have killed you. I did what I had to." Cole stared off at the shops and I knew he was wondering about the fox girl, Andy.
I wondered about her too. She wanted to leave with us. I shifted against the tough grain bags. "I know. Are we going to meet the fox?" I knew I must not speak the Host's daughter's name in public. People would stare.
Cole nodded and laid his head on my shoulder. He was exhausted. "Goodnight, Beta," I said with a smile, acknowledging a joke between us.
"Goodnight, Omega."

The next morning, I woke to a cold hand over my lips, eyes, and arms wrapping around my body. I tried to scream, but the hand tightened on my jaw.
I kicked at the man but he made no noise. A second pair of arms grabbed me and I felt myself be dragged across the hard gravel and stone of the ground. I could hear the cloth of the dress I was to lazy to change out of rip.
The two men came to a stop, argued a bit, then literally threw my into an abandoned building. Great, I thought. I'm gonna die here.
I pushed my self up and tried to face my kidnappers, but of course, I had hit my head and my vision was still spinning. Not even brain damage could stop me from remembering a voice that called out.
"Looks like you and I always find ourselves in these situations, babe." Kane. He sat against the wall behind me with hands tied. His dark hair was still the same along with his dark copper eyes. "You miss me?"
"Not... At all," I said, still dizzy and surprised at seeing Kane. I turned back to the two men who were rustling through a duffle bag. My vision was fine by then and I could see one was tall and burly. The other, with a bald spot, was obese and very very...greasy.
The fatter one turned and shouted,"Ya'll shut up now." He came and I attempted to swing a punch but it ended up like a tiny slap. He shoved me down and thread something around my wrists.
"Come on, Ashy. You could have done way better than that." I could tell Kane still had his rampant sarcasm.
I growled. "Don't call me that, Kane."
He grinned with a laugh. Kane was still attractive, don't get me wrong, but his smile annoyed me. "I knew you remembered me. Then again, how could you forget the amazing sex we had?"
A louder growl ripped out of my throat and I struggled against the tight bonds. I could feel Kane's breath down my neck and he knew it too. Why did they have to set us so close together? "Kane, I swear I will rip your throat out with my teeth if you don't shut the heck up."
"Ooh! Look what I missed in the year was gone! Ash has decided to stop using such colorful language. This is new," Kane said, knowing it would piss me off. He wanted me to cuss him out. Or maybe not.
I looked up and over at him and the look of seriousness startled me. Kane was never serious unless it was important. Then it clicked. He was trying to make the men uncomfortable. Smart.
I studied the two men that had begun to pull torture devises of all kinds from their bag. Tazers, car batteries, and even car keys. The taller one had dog tags around his neck, but the military didn't do that anymore so he was either 56 years old or it was passed down to him.
