"I see you're back, once again."
The voice made Y/N flinch, her eyes flying open at the sudden voice. She spun around and found herself in the large room that she had been in weeks ago, though instead of red, this time it had pale brown walls. It reminded her of the desert sands or the dry grass on the savannah. Once again, she was unsure of how she was able to compare this to the colour of something that she hadn't even seen before, or at least she didn't remember.
Instead of a dress, this time Y/N was wearing a dusky coloured crop top and a pair of loose pants that sat on her hips, slipping down to one side a little too much for her comfort. It wasn't that these clothes were unfashionable in any sort of way, but the fact that the man who had been haunting her dreams was in the room made her uncomfortable. Feeling rather nervous, she fiddled with the leather bands on her wrists.
The mirror appeared once more in front of her and Y/N stepped up to it, paling a little bit when she noticed that she could see a little more of the man than she could the time before. He was no longer just the voice that floated around the room. Now, he was a shadow in the mirror in front of her.
"Once again, my dear pet, you are absolutely stunning."
"What do you want," Y/N asked, her voice hard like stone. Her hands clenched at her sides. She knew that magic would be useless in this room. He had told her that the time before.
The same deep chuckle appeared behind her, and Y/N felt her spine straighten. Hands ghosted down her arms and gripped her wrist, while the other one pulled on a strand of her hair. "I think you know what I want. You would make a wonderful queen, my dear."
Y/N spun away from the source of the voice, glaring at the empty space. "Leave me. Why do you insist on haunting my dreams?"
"It is the only way that I can speak with you while I struggle to retain any sort of form outside of my kingdom."
Y/N had a sneaking suspicion that this man didn't rightfully own the kingdom that he claimed to own.
"It isn't your kingdom, is it," she asked.
She hated the way that the man growled, and even more so, she hated how his invisible magic managed to slam her body up against the wall of the room, lifting her body so that her feet couldn't touch the ground. She tried to pull the hands away from her throat, but of course, his magic was immune to her struggles.
"It is my kingdom, you little brat. And you are nothing more than a tool for me to use to get what I want." The magic released Y/N and she crumpled to the ground, coughing and massaging her throat.
"You will join me eventually, pet. Or else you will watch everyone you love suffer at my hand. And it will be all. Your. Fault!"
The room melted away and Y/N found herself crouching on the invisible ground that always seemed to catch her as she fell from the room. It took a moment for her to catch her breath, but slowly, she pushed herself up and looked around at the universe.
'Is this the Twisted Wonderland universe,' she wondered.
She got to her feet and started walking, searching for the portal that she knew would be here. There was always a portal. It was almost as if this place wanted her to figure out what was happening underneath the surface.
'Is this affecting NRC? Does it have something to do with the overblot?'
Y/N only had to walk for a few minutes before she found the portal. It seemed to glow with the heat of a thousand suns, and as Y/N stopped in front of it, she could feel the touch of warmth on her skin.
She took a breath as she stepped through the portal. Dry grass crunched beneath her bare foot, and she hissed as the next step she took resulted in a small rock embedding its end into the arch of her foot. She bent down to pick it out, rolling the grey stone between her fingers. She carelessly tossed it to the side and turned her face to the wind, trying to figure out where she was, and what this dream was trying to tell her this time.
