"Goodnight Mom."

"Goodnight my dear." My clan mother meowed.

"Darkflame!" who's Darkflame?

"Come back." the words drowned out of my mouth. I wasn't in control.

"Thornstar." I'm just a kit!

"I love you Darkflame." But I don't love anyone.

"As do I, but I need to go now."

"Where?" My voice sounded old, my fur getting thinner and the world getting colder.

"To death." my body froze and I fought for air. Darkflame! My mind screamed.

"Thornkit!" I shivered. "Thornkit? You look like you were out in the cold all night." Rainwing? Why are you here?

"Why am I here?" I look around at the cold camp.

She picked me up and brought me back to the nursery. "Thornkit!" Featherkit squealed.

"What?" I say stumbling over Stormkit who was sleeping right in front of the entrance. I turned around to see Rainwing step carefully over him and pick him up.

"Mom said that Crookedstar is thinking about making us apprentices today!" She squealed jumping around me in circles.

"It's about time!" I say licking my chest.

"Kits, try and see if any cat needs help." Rainwing meowed as she yawned.

"Okay!" We all say waking up Stormpaw.

"Where are you going?" He asked.

"We're going to help the Warriors!" Featherkit meow.

All three of us ran through the nursery entrance and ran into a cat.

"Just who I was looking for." He meowed.

I sigh. "Can Featherkit and Stormkit help us?" I ask hopefully.

"No, Leopardfur has a thorn stuck in her foot, I thought it would be educational for you to watch me take it out." He replied.

"Fine." I sigh

I walk into the den and see Leapardfur sitting down with her paw in The air. "Someone must have left thorns in the moss for my nest." She growled showing all her teeth.

"I'll have a talk with the apprentices." A new voice chimes in. I look up to see our crooked jawed leader, Crookedstar.
"Hello Thornkit." He meowed. "You look awfully old for a kit." He chuckled.

I stared at him with wide eyes. He's really going to make me an apprentice today.

"Well you look awfully exited." He joked.

"Trust me, I am." I meowed bowing my head. "If you don't mind me asking, am I going to be a medicine cat apprentice?"

"You will be taken care of for your time here, that is all I can say. Other than StarClan will always, always be with you." He got up off his old haunches and slowly made his way out of the medicine cat's den.

Was he not allowed to say? Was it a surprise? A cat can't live forever, Mudfur is destined to die one day. He would be leaving the clan without a cure.

"Thornkit. We're you watching?"

"Yea." I lied.

After Leapardfur left I quietly approached the medicine cat sorting herbs. "Can I help?" He scooted over to make room for me on the tiny space where all the herbs are. I started stacking some marigold that was scattered all over.

"Thornkit, can you go get some burdock root and catmint, it's almost Leaf Bare and I want to be prepared for anything that comes our way." I nod and quickly head out of the den. They trust me with collecting herbs. My mother said it was because I had a lot of potential.

"Thornkit, where are you going?" Featherkit meowed after me.

"Collecting herbs." I meow while I'm squeezing out of the tunnel and into the forest. I've been into the forest plenty of times but never alone. I head over to the river. I know there's some burdock growing in the reeds.

I sniff around until I see the red root growing from underneath the reeds.

"Who are you?" A voice came from behind me. I must have been to occupied sniffing the reeds I forgot about the air.

I jump around to see a black she-cat standing across the river. "Who are you?" I meow.

"Thunderpaw." She meowed.

"I'm Thornkit." I replied.

"What's a kit like you doing out here?"

"I'm collecting herbs." I meow. I was the same size as her, maybe a little bigger. I could take her on.

"Are you part of Riverclan?" She asked.

"Yes, I'm going to become an apprentice today." I meow happily.

"Well alrighty then, you should go back to your camp before you miss your ceremony."  I turn around. "Bye Thornpaw." She meowed. I looked backs and she was gone.

I go and find the catmint and head back to camp. I belly growls and I brake into a run.

After I drop the herbs back at camp I go to the fresh kill pile and take a small mouse. A small meal for a small cat. That's what mom always used to say. I wonder where she is now. I thought.

"Thornkit!" Rainwing called. "Come groom yourself."

I ran over and started licking my brown fur. "Can't you lick my fur?" Stormkit complained.

"No, you're old enough to do it yourself!" Rainwing meowed licking her paws.

"All cats old enough to fish, gather beneath the reeds for a clan meeting!" Crookedstar meowed, his voice like thunder.
