Chapter 1
Introduction
Hi, my name is Jacqueline Jameson, or Jacquie for short. I'm just an ordinary girl who goes to an ordinary school in an ordinary part of New York. Well, it isn't really ordinary. Spider-Man lives somewhere in this area. He's the neighbourhood hero and everyone loves him and looks up to him, even me. I'm just the new girl at school. I don't think it's going to be too bad.
"Hi!" I said to a girl who was walking with a group of boys. She smirked, then walked off. They whispered to each other and laughed. Ok, maybe it will be hard. This is a big school and getting around might be tough, but I'm sure in time, I'll find the right group of friends.
I sat down at a table and got my camera out. See, I love photography. I've loved it ever since my dad bought me my first camera when I was little. I work for him at the Daily Bugle. I'm the only one who he really listens to at the company! I've lately been assigned to take photos of Spider-Man and it's a great job.
I started taking photos of everything around me. I was getting a lot of weird looks from other students. Obviously they don't know me. Some of these people probably don't want to know me. I'm a shy person so I don't make friends easily. As I was looking around for something else to take a photo of, I see someone out of the corner of my eye, standing near my table. I turned my head to see a boy. Quite tall with dark brown hair and brown eyes.
"You must be new!" he said.
"Uh, yeah! It's my first day." I shyly replied.
"You like photography?" he asked while sitting next to me.
"Yeah! I love it! I can't go anywhere without my camera!"
"Same! I'm Peter! Peter Parker!" he said, holding his hand out.
"I'm Jacqueline Jameson, Jacquie for short." I said while shaking his hand.
The bell rang and all the students made their way into the school buildings. Peter beckoned me to follow him. I had no idea where he was leading me, but I think it was to the school office. I met the principal and he handed me my timetable. He told Peter to show me around the school and then help me with my locker. This day wasn't so bad after all!
"So what sort of classes do you have?" Peter asked.
"Just the boring stuff. Although I have a media class and I love Science!"
"You love Science?" he asked while standing in front of some lockers.
"Yeah! I love science! I don't think I'm that smart, but I've always found it very interesting!"
"Maybe I should tutor you sometime!"
I nodded as Peter pointed to where my locker is. I looked at the code, then opened it immediately. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be! Peter opened the locker next to mine.
"That's your locker?" I asked.
"Yeah!" he said while getting a book out.
I glanced at his timetable which was stuck on the door of his locker. He had the same class as I did this morning. Science. I grabbed the same book from my bag, then caught up to him as he made his way down the hallway. He looked down at me and grinned. I was quite short compared to him. I only came up to his shoulder. He walked in before me and I followed him in.
"Sorry I'm late. I was helping Jacqueline who is new at this school."
I waved to the teacher and looked down at the ground, letting my long black hair cover my face. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the girl who I said hello to earlier. She was sitting with her boyfriend and I could hear her giggling. I shook it off. I'm glad I didn't try and make friends with her.
"Jacqueline, you can sit next to Peter. We are doing a science experiment today."
Peter went to his seat and I sat next to him. There was a blonde girl sitting in front of him and Peter kept staring at her. Did they know each other? I zoned out as I thought to myself. Different questions were running through my head. Peter...seemed familiar. As I kept thinking, I heard a loud pop. I jumped and looked up at the front of the room.
"And that, ladies and gentlemen is how you do it! I would like you all to find a partner, and try this experiment." said the teacher.
"Can you tell me what the hell we are doing, because I was not listening to any of that!" I whispered to Peter.
We all grabbed our lab coats and then I started the experiment with Peter. I had no idea what we were doing, so I just watched Peter. He set up a Bunsen burner and then put a beaker over the flame, which had a green liquid in it.
"You wanna try?" he asked.
I nodded and then I took the beaker off him. The liquid began changing colour. It went from green, to blue, to purple. I looked up at Peter. I thought it was amazing. He went around to the other side of the bench. Suddenly, I felt a push from behind and the beaker flew out of my hand. I fell to the ground as my arms scratched the edge of the bench. When I got up, I saw Peter catch the beaker and then catch the liquid in the beaker. He had great reflexes. I spun around to see it was the girl who was giggling at me earlier.
"Can you watch what you're doing?" I said.
She laughed, then went back to her bench. What the hell did she have against me? She's just a bully. Peter came around to my side of the bench and I noticed everyone was looking at me.
"Don't worry about her. She's crazy. You ok?"
I nodded and then sat down in my seat. The teacher came over to me to see if I was ok, but I didn't want to make a scene. I wasn't really ok. All I wanted to do was run home and never come back here again. I looked down at my wrists and they were both bleeding. I pulled my sleeves over my hands, then rested my head on my table. I felt humiliated. Who the hell does this girl think she is?
